Tahoe Trail Closures

The Tahoe USFS Travel Management is proposing to close some trails to ALL wheeled motorized vehicles. Of course once they get them closed to wheeled vehicles snowmobiles are sure to follow. Areas under attack include Rattlesnake Rd and OHV access into Fordyce and beyond. There is a Nov 26th deadline to comment on this proposal. As of right now the opposing side has sent in thousands of letters and the OHV side only just above 300 letters, so we are way behind. When you write the letter make sure to personalize it. NO FORM LETTERS!!!! Introduce yourself, list any OHV organization that you belong to and that you are writing because you are concerned the extensive closures to the user, created routes and winter closure. Explain to them how you use the routes. Example: camping, fishing, to enjoy the great outdoors, etc. Give as many reasons as possible as to why the trails need to stay open. Mention how it will affect the local economy. Also be sure to thank them for their time and once again ask them to keep your trail open. Please do this ASAP. We have no time to waste. Mail to: USFS Travel Management Team,631 Coyote Street, Nevada City, CA 95959. Thanks, in advance. I can guarantee you this is just the beginning of what's to come. Richard Brightman, CNSA Safety Director.

If you want to check out further information on the proposed closures go to www.fotfa.com. This will site has the dates and locations for the public hearings regarding closure of these areas.

They never give up.

Maybe we should write letters about Nordic only areas as being discriminatory...

This issue is also getting crazy for backpackers. My Boy Scout Troop was denied access (as a group) to an area near Carson Pass because the “foot traffic in that area had reached capacity”.

Good thing they never had these rules when the west was settled.

Thanks for the heads up Bill - I ride with the Butte Meadows Rolling Thunder Club and haven't seen the Tahoe closure stuff. We're still dealing with the Lassen closure issues.
