T-Nytro Chain Maintenance

A good buddy of mine recommends replacing the drive chain every year on boosted sleds. Do you guy's follow the same guideline? What else is required other then the chain itself? Are the sprockets re-useable? Any guidance is appreciated. Sled is a Nytro. Sean

I agree....just not worth the risk IMO.....100 bucks and its done.....I also change my chaincase oil alot and check it over in there every few rides. Will wreck the whole groups day and could wreck your buddies sled trying to pull it out.....think about it.

As far as the chain case goes on the Nytro I don't think you need to replace sprockets yearly or the chain. Just check for visible damage. You do want to check or replace the bolt that holds the retainer in on the reverse gear assembly. They have a tendency to snap and shatter. Just get a bolt 5mm shorter and a bit stronger. Also check any rubber seals for cracking and replace them. Also every 3 rides or so check your chain tension. Finger tight then back it off 1/4 turn.

You would want to check your drivers yearly for sure. Turbo power puts them in a world of hurt. One thing you will want to change out yearly is your drive shaft (secondary shaft) bearing on the both sides. If they start to wear out on you they will cause alot more damage than you want.

100$ for chain and sprocket? I put a new one in a few months ago IRC they raped me on the chain alone. Cant remember exactly how much it was I just know it was more then 100.

I agree change it often and avoid the headaches. I also put in all new bearings this year as well. Mostly because I had it apart.

I did wonder about my drivers-3000k on boost and the extrovert teeth where showing some rounding the rest look good though so I left them in.

PS that chaincase is a PITA, my spring bolt was broken but I just put the cover back on with no bolt. It is harder to put back together but that dam bolt likes to break and doesnt really do anything.

Bearing, dont forget to check or replace the driveshaft and jackshaft bearings. They can make a real mess of a day.

My Apex chain has over 5000 kms, kids Nytro almost 4000 kms. If the chain never seems to stretch and there is no junk in the case, then I assume it is good. The most important thing is to make sure and keep proper tension, DO NOT over tighten it. I check mine before every ride. I will probably change the Apex chain this yr though.

Hey Seano,

When you check your oil level in the chain case you will see specks of metal on the dipstick if there is rubbing or damage going on in there.

had my cain break on my t nytro last season cost bout 500 bones for all the parts, plus the pain in the #ss pulling it out, had to take the whole thing apart on the hill because the chain was bound up under the lower gear. I would say an inspection at least once a year and I would replace it at the most every other year. The worst thing about the chain breaking is it tends to happen at the worst times and places, if it happens in the middle of a big pull it could end up costing u ur whole sled. thats my 2 cents
