symtoms of reeds needing replacement

I purchased the OVS reed stops with a single layer M1000 reeds for my M8, but would like to know what to look for when they go. Thanks

 

[RACINSTATION]

On a turbo sled it is usually obvious. The reeds will be cracked around the top edges or have broken pieces missing. On a naturally aspirated sled you may see chipping as well, but usually just hold the cage up to the light from the side and the reed should sit flat and seal onto the reed block. They start to bend up a bit and you will see daylight between the reed and the block when they need replaced.

when mine were bad the bottom end was very loady, basically that is the only time the reeds are a factor on a turbo sled. I did the same thing this year M1000 reeds and OVS reed stops, we will see how they work. Travis and Gar swear by them.

when the reeds are going bad your idle will drop a few hundred mine went from 1700 to 1400 sometimes it will die.and when they are totally gone it wont run hardly at all the throttle reponse suffers.atleast thats what mine did

i agree with this
when the reeds go bad the low end is terrible, it doesnt hurt the top end.
when your top end is sputtering, and inconsistent its time for new spark plugs....

i think i might have to try these reed stops ovs is making, sound like they are the cats meow....

Reeds

Can make it to where it will not start if bad enough. Sometime it will happen in the backcountry after a long pull it just wont start back up. Bad reeeds
