Switching from VES Gold to MystikJt-4..?

18 SBA 800 here....thinking of going from Gold to Mystik Jt-4 or maybe VES Extreme.

Do I need to get my ECM calibrated for thinner oil (especially at colder temps )?

My machine runs anywhere from 32:1 to 45:1 depending on conditions and rpm.

Nope just start filling with different oil.

and make sure the oils are compatible, (ie they will mix Ok) Before just dumping it in. some will NOT mix and can cause real issues.

I bought a jug of each Mystik JT-4, Shell Ultra and VES Extreme to compare with VES Gold.

I left the jugs outside overnight(minus 30) here.

I did a prelim check...going to do a more involved test tommorow when it's supposed to be minus 35.

Best flow ....VES Extreme not even close here.

VES Gold and Shell Ultra about same.

Mystik came in last?

I am guessing I won't be switching now unless I goto the Extreme?

So you are going to be riding when it is 30 degrees below zero?

we had -19 at cooke once, the trail back to town was pretty cold at the end of the day, dang wind chill

At times...

But I have read that Mystik Jt-4 is supposed to flow better in cold ... obviously that was false....

I just want to make sure when I start my sled if it's minus 25 that it's got a free flowing oil.

I think I will actually switch to Extreme once my current supply of Gold runs out

I will keep the Mystik for Boat and the Shell Ultra for chainsaw and ice auger premix.

I've run Redline racing oil for years, its gotten stupid expensive and made the switch to the ves extreme zero issues it looks to be good stuff

I've been running Mystik for years in every brand of 2 strokes and never had a problem. Love the less than $20 a gallon price but the lowest I've ever ran it in was -5. Not interested in going sledding in -0 temps anymore. I'll stay home where it's nice and warm and wait till it warms up to at least 5 degrees :) You diehard guys can have all the cold temps...

Mystic JT-4 full synthetic is some of the best oil you can buy for your sled and it's only $24/gallon. DO NOT buy the sea and snow blended version. That stuff is crap. JT-4 full synthetic is -54F cold pour, so maybe you were using the wrong version? It's gotta be full synthetic. Best oil I've used. It has pretty much the same amount of synthetic ester in it as the Polaris Extreme has, or whatever it's called.

It's Mystik JT-4 Full synthetic snowmobile.....is there another Mystik?

It's purple.

It's about $10 cheaper per 1 gallon jug than VES Gold.

Not disagreeing that it's good oil or not Mystik has great reviews.....but at minus 30 it is thicker than VES Gold....so I will stick with Gold...rather than trying to save $30 per season.

For warmer temps it would be o.k running Mystik but we run lots in minus 25 so I will stick with the thinner oil....

There is 2 versions:

I wish the price difference it shows on the website was what we see here, it is not. The first full-synthetic version around here is twice as much as the syn-blend.

I am currently using the cheaper stuff in my 2 machines.

Holy cats! That's expensive. JT-4 full synthetic is $24 at Fleet Farm, here in the US.

BTW, Mystic has a viscosity of 54 cSt @ 40c, while Polaris VES Extreme is only 30 cSt @ 40c. So, the Poo stuff starts out much thinner, and will likely pour faster at -30F, but I believe the JT-4 still has a lower pour point. They're both good stuff.

I've fired up my sled at about -22F, but any colder than that and I'm staying home.

Sorry wrong...

I have already checked all 4 of these oils @ -30.

The easiest to pour was.

1) VES Extreme....like no contest here ....

2) 2 way tie between VES Gold & Shell Ultra

Last place was Mistik Jt-4 Full Synthetic.

I was dissapointed to see the Mystik pour so poorly because it was the one I wanted to use....and it was the cheapest.

I have read alot and acknowledge that JT-4 is great oil....just want to stick with easier to pour oil in cold temps....

My dealer told me they had some issues with some running Shell Ultra...which I think is probably a coincidence because I have used Shell mineral oil for years .....and I believe that Ultra is a great oil.

Minus 34 here today.

Did another test.

This is just a simple test to see what the cold pour temp. / Flow would be.

1) VES Extreme

2) Shell Ultra (,just edges out VES Gold)

3) VES Gold

4) Mystik JT-4

I am sure running Mystik JT-4 at above -20 would be fine....just the odd time a guy finds himself warming up and moving his sled in -25 or -30 I want to make sure my oil is flowing.

The reason I am doing is this test is because of the claims that JT-pours @ -54....well it might ..but @-34...ALL 3 of the other more expensive oils pour BETTER!

I will switch to VES Extreme once my supply of Gold runs out.
