sway bar help

Well after much debate i decided to cut out the sway bar on an 05 rev 800 and it made a lot of difference in the powder and on the trail. the only issue is the trail. I had know idea that the sled would dive so much in the corners it was like the shocks were blown out. I expected it would do that but not that much. I stiffened up the stock shocks but still was pretty bad. Has anyone tried after market shocks or is there a quick disconnect for that year? thanks

Your shock probably are blown. Have them rebuilt bt Curt at Fastrax. No need to put the sway bar back in.

thanks for the reply. I wouldn't think both shocks would blow at the same time but i will take them out and have them looked at. Is there something i can do to tell if there blown? there is no fluid that has leaked on both of them either

It would seem a bit odd if both were gone. You should have been able to tell before you pulled out the sway bar if they were both gone. They would feel soggy on the front end.

After they are out, if you can compress them with your hands then they are hooped, but if you can't then they may still be ok. A dealer will be able to tell you for sure tho.

I know it really makes a difference to the "diving" thing when you do take out the bar.... you have to really manhandle it on the trails and on hard pack.

On the Rev's without the swaybar it's almost mandatory to bump up to the next stiffer springs. I did on my '07 and it was the best of both worlds....easy to lay over and great bump ride. The shocks have little to do with stiffness, that is the job of the springs.

I agree.... the heaver springs will make it stiffer.... but if the shocks are gone then it will bounce. I still think you would be able to tell that if they are still on the sled just by pushing down on the front end and let it go.... sort of the same idea as in a car.

I don't think heavier springs will replace the function of shocks.

Do what winterbrew suggested, or go the route I want to......find a cheap pair of floats for that badboy. My 06 doesnt have a swaybar and although I like certain characteristics of no swaybar, I'm a big enough boy to handle a sled with minimal issue and have ran swaybars in all my sleds. If I could just hook it back up I would, but I'm not that into replacing a nun when it's not needed. :D

sway bar removal

I have an 04 summit and the stock skis made it dart on the trail and hard pack extremely bad. Found some 06 skis and it made a world of difference. I would never have consider removing the sway bar, but now I might. Skis and spring stiffness make a huge difference. I'm not sure but I think the 05 skis are the same as the 04 skis.
Just a thought.

Quick Disconnect

Just to help you out, they don't make a quick disconnect for that year, but there is a member on here named kelwar that had a really good idea on how to make your own quick disconnect. I did it to my sled and it was amazing. I could have it disconnected in about 30 seconds and only cost about 5 dollars to make (and a little time). I just sold my sled or I would get you some pictures, sorry. I bet though he could hook you up. I know it involved taking off the old bolts that hold the sway bar on, drilling a hole in a new bolt, putting it back on in its place with a nut to hold it in place then putting the sway bar back on followed by a wing nut and a pin to hold the wing nut in place. Anyway, long story short is that it worked well on that year. Good luck on getting the fix, and if you want the sway bar fix try and get a hold of kelwar on here.:face-icon-small-hap

I cut the sway bar out of my 06 REV800 last year, best mod to date. When i did that, I also installed stiffer factory REV springs. Handles a little bit different than with the sway bar but when you get off the trail it is soooo awesome. This year im gona add RideFX shocks up front and dial it in.
