Suspension question

I am putting a 155" 5.1 track on my Assault. I have 2008 rails and a 2010 track. Track swap went over pretty smoothly. I am in the process of putting the bogeys and scissor on the new rails.

When I took the old suspension apart I had a piece that was broke:

The plastic piece that is #10 on the pic has small crack and a little plastic broke off. The washer that is #13 in the pic is also very worn. It doesn't look near as thick as in the pic.

Anyone else deal with this? I'll get some pics of the broken pieces as well.

#10 is the sleeve to the torsion spring
#13 is a wave washer

My piece is not completely round, it almost has a notch built into it. Anyone else have one of these bust? Seems like a strange piece to break. Sled has aprox 500 miles.

i just changed out the shocks on my 08 and washer #13 that your referring to
was only about .050 thick and waved

The notch is normal to where it fits around the cross shaft and doesn't spin on it. The washer is just like a small pressure spring and isn't 1/2" like the picture.

Thanks! Looking some more, my sleeve was notched and it looked like it was supposed to be that way. It had a very small piece come off. I guess the pic is just wrong.

My washer was waved as well. Very thin. One was tore, but it was still shaped fine. I will replace it next time I have it off (2 months).

torsion spring sleeve cracked...

i just had the exact same thing happen to me last night. one of the waved washers is gone, the other is half gone... are these things ment to wear down like that?...

also, while releasing the torsion spring pressure i had that same piece ,#10 sleeve, crack on both sides, inside near the arm, In the exact same spot... both pieces that fell off are the exact same shape, and size??... just one from the left, one from the right.
Is this normal? where these pieces supposed to be off from the factory, or are the sleeves just junk now?

Have you looked at the bearing in part number #12?

If they are not smooth and dont rotate with a constant smooth resistance (pushing grease out the way) then replace them.

They should be 6004 bearings and are not really made for wet conditions.

So they fail pretty fast plus they don't pack the grease like they used to.

Cost less than $5 on Ebay and $3 in bulk.

For you rich guys who want to save weight go ceramic at $60 each and save a couple ounces on each one ... Wow you could save a pound for $500

When looking at them pay attention to the grease!

Never really found out what grease used for OEM but synthetic is the only way to go with the temps we operate.

So uh ... how are the bearings?

Thingink about this maybe the wear is from lateral loads on the washer.

Could this be typical wear from sidehilling?

Pulling G's around the corner?

Landing at an angle from a jump and tweeking the suspension?

Do you think the track misalignment may impact this area ... I used count the treads of the bolts to adjust track tension. Is there a better method?
Measurement ... amount of torque differential between the two bolts?

Chunky, I seen them same sleeves and noticed they didnt make any for polaris so I just took a piece of PVC electrical conduit (the gray stuff) I believe like 1.5" and had to drilled it out a little bit bigger to fit the #10 sleeve from above inside it. It helped the torsion springs greatly. Like putting the big boy springs but only having the stock ones.

It keeps the spring from grinding and also if you notice the spring has a like 1.5" ish whole while the shaft is only like 3/4"-1". so the springs binds because it doesnt sit parallel to the shaft. And that also takes away from the springs tension

the bearings appear to be ok... not fully pushing grease tho. so i think I will swap those out while the skid is on the bench.

Sidehilling, or weird landings i think could play a role in this. the dealership told me that they have "never" seen those waved spacers wear out like that. To that I say B.S..... like im the only 1 that has ever had that happen. just plain sillyness!:jaw:
