suspension ideas...but questions too

So all the talk on the stiff ride and falling rate suspension got me thinking of a possible solution to a poor design...FOX FLOATS in the rear skid!

Not only would you lose weight back there but also the awesome ride and anti-bottom qualities of the air shocks might prove to be the hot ticket for ride quality in the rear skid.
I just so happen to have two FoxFloat X's with resevoirs that are comp and rebound adjustable. The length on these two are 17.5" eye to eye.
Does anyone here have there hawk available to measure there shocks?
Im not able to access mine this weekend so if you could take a peek at yours and give me an approximate idea of the length of the two back shocks that would be nice-especially if its the older expert x and not the newer three shock extremes.

Whatya think...could this work?

Ok,
On my 503F with the suspension at full droop, the limiter straps at the last position, and a few threads showing on the drawbar nut, the shocks are 13.5" from eye to eye.

D@mn-I knew it wouldnt be that easy.I dont know if they make the floats that short...hmmm - I need to research this some more. But with the shocks naturally being a rising rate and the skid being a falling rate I would think the two would work nicely with eachother.

Already ahead of ya on that one , been trying the walker evans with adjustable chambers for the last two weeks . Workin on dialin in the valving , but so far the ride is awsum ! But because of the leverage with the long rails i may have to go to next bigger body for a little more support , im bottoming a little to hard on the big stuff on hard pack , but on the trails and in the powder its awsum ! But its looking very promising !

Which shock are you using? Is it air only or have a coil also? Thanks.
