Support for our Troops in battle!! Please read and forward

Not much has been reported on this war lately. I did want to make all of us aware that our troops are in a huge battle as we sit at our desks. Take a moment to consider those in battle, fighting for us.

We are asking everyone to say a prayer for the US "Darkhorse" 3rd Battalion 5th Marines and their families. They are fighting in Afghanistan and have lost 9 Marines in 4 days. Please re-post this.

Restrepo

"Restrepo" premiered on National Geographic channel the other night and it is excellent. I suggest everybody watch it and see what our troops have to go through day in and day out.

Restrepo Website

Just a word of warning: This has not been edited even though it is on National Geographic so the language is quite harsh. Personally, I'm glad they didnt edit it but you may want to know that before watching.

I was rather embarrassed to find that both my 6 and 8 year olds were surprised to hear that the U.S. is currently at war. So I sat them down and we watched the Restrepo special I had DVR'd, they both left with a profound respect for the commitment our fighting forces make.

The language is a little harsh at times, but it's nothing that mine haven't heard coming from my garage already.

maybe a few people out there could learn from the 6 and 8 yo?

Considering it's the holidays, we all get focused/consumed with "things/products/consumables" and I am guilty of it as well. When you sit back and look at what some of these kids/young families go through and how often we/I take it for granted, it's pretty sickening. Don't know how the rest of our community (sledders) feel, but I still buy anyone in uniform their meal if I see them out at a restaurant. It's a small token, but I know it brings a smile to their face and it's appreciated.

Patriot Guard

I recently signed up to be a Patriot Guard rider. For those that do not know, they are the motorcyclists that post a flag line at funerals and on the tarmac when troops return from service. They will also escort the casket to the cemetery and form a flag line there if the family chooses.

Unfortunately, I have'nt had a chance to ride yet but look forward to the first chance I can. From what I've heard it means as much to the riders as it does for the family for them to be there. :usa2:

GREAT POST BATCH!! God bless em! The blood and guts left on this battle field are as real as any other war. By God this is a war as real as it gets. So tonight while were all channel surfing in our 72.8' homes lets at least think of those who are ( if their lucky) eat cold mre's sleeping in fox holes. Come home safe fellas.

Stumbled onto this thread and just want to say "Thank You" to those of you who support us. I might not spend much time in foxholes but yesterday marked my 23rd year in the Air Force providing the guys on the ground some protection. Thanks again for your support of all the troops!

I sure wish our government would stop trying to play nice. Our poor troops are fighting a fight with one arm tied behind their back. Give them what they need, turn 'em loose, let 'em kick some arse, and come the hell home!

Thank you for your service. Interesting post on SEARS Dept Store.

Subject: Interesting Fact About Sears....

Sears - Christmas shopping this year.

I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice.
It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?!?!?!

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty?
By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

Pass it on.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

Looks like it's time to go shopping at Sears.:thumb: Hell I will buy stuff I don't need just to show support!

Sears, seriously.

Looks like it's time to go shopping at Sears.:thumb: Hell I will buy stuff I don't need just to show support!

Yeah, funny, I haven't stepped in a Sears Store for about 10yrs or more. Now that I know their tireless support of our US troops, I will have to go over and buy a few gifts.

Thanks again.
Any other positive, supportive posts, related to our Armed forces, feel free to tack em up here

great thread guys...I too will have to do more shopping at sears...right now my son is in marine bootcamp in san deigo, on hold due to getting pnuemonia..gonna delay his graduation it sounds like..but soon he too will most likely be in afganistan or some other nasty place...doing what marines do best...its an honor to call him son....thank you all for supporting our troops..and thank you troops for what you endure for america...:usa2:

Looks like we should be skipping the "deals" at TARGET

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army ring their bells in front of their Stores?

Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote:

"Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our
spring recognition event.

We received the following reply
from the local TARGET management:

'Veterans do not meet our
area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action groups,
gay & lesbian causes, and education."

So I'm thinking, if the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were
not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. .. Corporate Headquarters and their response was the same.

That's their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further.

They will not allow the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their stores..
And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while
they were on military service..
Then as I dig further,

TARGET

is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET cannot support American
Veterans, then why should my family and I support their stores by spending our hard-earned American dollars!

And,

have their profits sent to France ....

Without the American Vets, where would
France be today?

'They most likely would be speaking German and trading in Deutsch Marks'

Sincerely,
Dick Forrey

Please send this on to everyone you know

to let Target know we don't need them either!
