Supertip clutch setup?

Heading to Island Park this week and I need some advice. I have the 60Y Supertip weights in an N/A Apex and am wondering what to run as far as additional weight in them.

I have a 54/42 Bender helix in the secondary and 19/43 gearing. Turning a 174x2.5x16 camo extreme.

Any setup advice, tips, etc. would be helpful. I'd like it to pull around 10-10,500 when I'm climbing, overrev on the trail is fine.

Whats your elevation? i assume yours are 60g base weight, supertips have a bit more curavture than stock weights. The more curvature, the faster upshift you get and also need to run less weight. start off running them bare that will be pretty close, if thats not enough you might need to add a couple washers to the base of the weight. thats a good starting point. after that you can fine tune, your weights, the lower postion on the arm well provide bottom end while adding weight to the tip will give more top end.

i did alot of trial and error with the supertips, pm me if you need more info or have any troubles, more than willing help ya get your setup dialed and start highmarking some 2 strokes out on the hill:D

Yes they are the 60g base weight. Elevation will be about 7000-9000ft. And I'll be riding with a couple turbo sleds, some M8's, a dragon, and a few ski-doos, so it'll be nice to get up there aways.

More about the sled, timbersled susp all around with fox floats throughout, stock rails, gen IIs with carls cut, boss seat, mountain lite undertunnel exhaust, 2" rox riser, 9in big wheel kit

our sleds are virtually the same. since i run shockwave and just adjust by feel, not sure on my exact degrees for secondary. but 60g is gonna be close to the high side, but i'm not sure how your dual angle helix will work i never used those. run your weights bare and start there, let us know how it runs that way and then you will know what direction you need to go from there.
 
Alright sounds good to me. I do have a shockwave helix sitting on the bench that I got with the sled. Also have the stock Yamaha helix as well.

Not sure what the secondary twist is set at, haven't really looked. The guy I got it from had a 7g tungsten in the middle slot, and he was at 5000ft, but that just seemed a little too heavy. I also rode this same setup at about 8000ft on the way home and it was way under pull at 9500rpm max. Thanks for your help. I'll run them empty first and see how it goes. Watch for new posts from me Saturday evening. Driving out Friday and the riding Saturday.

ya the shockwave is nice to get a starting point. cause if your under rpms or over it takes 30 seconds to adjust that secondary and have your sled running bang on. i would bring the shockwave with you incase your bender helix doesn;t work. my supertips x series 55g, 14.5 rollers, shockwave straight angle about 2-3 turns out,19/40 gearing. it starts out at 10,650 and then holds 10,500 all the way up 1000ft chutes. 6000-7000ft elevation
 
Sounds good, I mean this guy has tried tons of things on this sled before I got it so the helix must be pretty good. I have top gears (17,18,19,20) and bottom (40,43) as well as extra primary springs, and then the shockwave and Yamaha helix. I believe its 19/43 right now or 20/43 not quite sure. 20/43 would pretty much be the same as your 19/40.
 
I did find this from the previous owner...hmm decisions...

"I run the 60's at 8000 ft, just put them in bare,no added weight. They work great. My sled is minus 94 pounds with 18/43 gear and 174 camo ext. Change your primary spring to blue-silver-blue or blue-pink-blue, Even when I ran the 19/42 combo I could slam the rev limiter on hardpack, climbing in powder 10,200, 43 track speed I run shockwave helix at 48 deg.
I would strongly recomend a 42 bottom gear (70 link chain) the sled will love it, you can still run about 90 but it will really be a beast on the bottom.
You may have to go 1 or 2 steel washers in the tips, but no more will be needed.

I will agree however that for a normally asperated sled the 50 gram would be a better start as it would allow you the option of adding more weight if need be....IMHO"

EDIT: Just looked, I have the 17, 18, 19 and 40 tooth gears in the box so it must be setup at 20/43 right now. Going to run that gearing, the 54/42 bender helix, and empty supertips. Safe riding!!

Only got to climb with it 1 day since the 2nd day the bulkhead broke where the bottom A-arm mounts to the front.

Was at 9500rpm climbing with this setup and it pulled hard. Was impressed and it worked great. Just load up the motor and let it tractor on!!
 
I think it went higher than that. I didn't really want to look anymore after a quick glance, was too busy climbing. I'll have to either find 55 gram supertips or go back to stock weights, since I ran my 60 gram supertips empty.
 
keep your 60's, throw in the shockwave and turn the dial clockwise till your sled will hold 10,500rpm, see how that works. lighter weights will help get better performance out of the sled but this could be a fast and easy to get the sled climbing good. i love my shockwave for that fact, i keep the same weights for low and high elevations and i just adjust my shockwave till i get the rpms i want.
 
I don't think I will be making it back out to the mountains anytime soon, broke the bulkhead where the bottom A-arm mounts in the front. But I will keep that in mind.
