Supercharged Nytro?

I have a stage 2 and it rocks,It's my first s/c so after i worked out the bugs everything is awesome.Power is unbelievable, and the sled doesn't seem to burn much more fuel than a stocker. It might burn one bar more than a stocker after a whole day riding, not much considering all the extra power you are now running.Plus you ride it more because it's so much fun you don't want to stop.I would do it again in a heartbeat,no going back the a stocker now.BOOST BOOST BOOST!!!!!!!

I am a turbo fan but my cousin has his Apex MPI kit rocking this year and lots of miles on pump gas so far without problems but then again it’s a Yamaha great bolt on boondocking HP just my 2cents.

I have 2 buds riding a SC nytro and neither are happy Won't pull proper rpm both are fuel hogs and won't even pull the stock clutching...something def. wrong here............02:(

I built two Stage 2 MPI kits on Nytro's. Had alot of problems with them.

-install time 12-16hrs
-need regulator kit (dosen't come with kit)
-testing a different air intake for in the powder
-wrong taper lock specs
-same hose on both rubbed through in first 20 miles
-too much boost for fuel system with 23/33 pulleys (18lbs)
-A/F is a must (dosen't come with kit)
-a little more cutting and drilling then they say
-fuel settings are time consuming to figure out (they may have numbers now)
-no head shim so 110 octane fuel required

I am closer to getting them both dialed in but waiting on parts and snow is 5 hours away. When they are working they pull like a freight train, unreal the power and instantly there. They will be a blast once dialed in. Fuel is not much worse than stocker but need to haul fuel or get a bigger gas tank for a full day ride.

Can you give more details about the bugs and the work arounds? How much boost are you running? Will you share your cluthcing?

I am running a stage 2 and have slowly crept my boost up to 12 pounds. It pulls like a freight train on the low and mid range. I don't feel like I am getting the track speed I should on the top end though. I am using super-tips and a straight angle shockwave.

I have seen comments in the past about SC's feeling like they fall off on the top end compared to turbos. Could this be related to using the stock exhaust? The stock exhaust is very quiet which normally equals restrictive. In comparison most turbos use little to no exhaust/muffler, therefore they have virtually no restriction.

If you break it down to the simplest terms an engine is an air pump. By adding boost we are multiplying the air going in significantly, but with the stock exhaust still in place I am afraid we are not letting it flow out freely enough.

Has anyone with a SC switched to an aftermarket exhaust? Did you see a significant increase in power and/or RPMs?

When testing these S/C's on the praire the speedeo would be reading 140km/hr, crack the throttle and she would pull hard to 168km/hr. It was UNREAL!!!! Weighted up all three holes with 4.5gram weights, and loosened the rear clutch one notch. Heavier spring in the front. Haven't been able to get much good testing in the mountains to see how it backshifts.
I am sure somebody has a better system than this??? But it seems to be working !!

not riding a nitro. apex with a sc bounced the rev limiter last year with stock exhaust only in some snow conditions. did under tunnel exhaust this year and could not keep it off the limiter at all 1/4 throttle. outlaw set me up with supertips and primary spring and made a snorkel intake for deep pow and boy howdy this thing flat rocks now!! need to pull about 400 more rpm to get to optimum rpm range but WOW what a difference.. never rode it stock so fuel mileage i dont know but you cant build this kind of power without throwing some fuel at it!!! dont even care cause its worth every penny!!!!!

had issues not getting enough fuel. no other issues with mine(pulleys etc.)
good to go now, mac will make sure it is right. yes you will have to pay more for the fix.......that sucks, but it is still cheaper than cheapest turbo.....at least the prices i have seen. kc boost setup is same clutch setup as mpi's. works good.

I have an Apex with SC also. Saw a Nytro with a Stage II SC being installed and there needs to be a bunch mesh in the hood and panels or the filter needs to come out into the open some where, especialy for powder days. Had that problem with my Apex first year. I extended the Filter so it sticks out of the hood and no more intake problems in the pow. It might not look the best but it works great. I put stock sea level weights with the heavy pins in the first two holes and hollow pins in the last hole, with the adjustable helix from Outlaw. From 6-8000 ft. it works good. I will over rev on the flat a bit, but I need that rpm and maybe a little more at 8000 ft, in 2' of pow on the hill.

The problems i've had are!!! The tolerences on the tapperlocks need to be correct, easy if you follow instructions and the key to keeping the pullies on are keep tightening the set screws often!!!!!!That's the whole trick trust me,after you do this every 20 minutes 3-4 times they stay tight. That took awile to figure out.Second problem was i was too lean on top end,Regulator fixed that problem $299 extra does not come with kit.Not a big deal.My clutching is stock weights with 4.5 gram rivets in all holes,Changed primary spring to a blue silver blue, changed rollers from 16.5mm to 14.5 mm.In secondary clutch moved spring to position 2 and 6 with stock spring.I've been out to the mountains 4 times and the sled rocks and ran perfect every day,no problems gas and ride all day long.Just keep checking your set screws on your pullies and make sure they are tight.I also run 50/50 fuel.A/F ratio running at 12.5 all the time.Any other questions let me know.

Just some input from what I have seen here. I have built 5 kits so far and my biggest concern was the intake being behind the intercooler. Saturday I rode in submarine type powder, pushing it over the windshield all day long. I have NEVER ridden a sled that worked that good in the fluff. Not a bog or hesitation all day. This was epic, deep, deep, stuff and not a hiccup.

I do have a problem with fuel economy. MINE SUCKS!!! I went from 9.5 MPG stock to 3.9-4.1 with the charger. I have to pack gas and have someone else pack gas for me as well if I am going to go on the entire ride. Aftermarket tanks are coming, but are a few weeks out.

I have a clutching spec I will try tomorrow and let you know, but right now I am very close. My personal sled I am not running the additional regulator with no problems on fuel for the top end as some at lower elevations are experiencing.

The kits are about a 15 hour install from start to finish.

I have tightened the pulley bolts every 10 miles for the first 100 miles on all of the sleds we have done and no pulley problems. I have had loose bolts on all of them the first few checks. Just keep a nice 1/8" ball end allen with you and you can check them without taking off the oil tank.

I have found that you MUST run a blowoff valve, that is not supplied with the kit. They do pull more weight than stock and pull hard. The main part of the group I ride with are running modded M1000s. The deeper the snow, the farther I could pull them. Bottom and mid power is SAWEET!

I will try to do better on posting progress as I come across it.:)

I have a stage 2 MPI supercharger on my Nytro and I love it. Sure there are a few teething problems but that can be expected on a product like this. A few extra hours in the shop making sure everything is installed correctly can save countless hours fixing problems later. The installation is not quick but the kit is so well engineered/designed and keeps the sled looking stock externally.
I still need to get it clutched properly but even bouncing off the rev-limiter the sled is incredible to ride. To be honest the best thing about the sled is how well the chassis performs with the supercharger. It is not mind-blowingly fast like a turbo-apex or RX-1 but it is so rideable. You can put the sled pretty much wherever you want on the mountain.
Buy a supercharger and spend a couple of full days installing it and you will love it.

I put a snorkel on mine, can post pics if anyone wants to see them. It makes it LOUD, no stealth here. But no problems other than you should carry extra prefilter in case you tear one on a tree:D

From the sounds of most guys are happy with the units other than some small stuff. Good to hear. I am trying to help a buddy sell his kit he got for a Apex stage 1 for $4500 new in the box in the swapmeet and seems not very many are interested???
