Super Q can too loud on 08 M8??

Read all the posts, listened to sound clips...thinking of putting a Super Q can on my 08 M8. Is it too loud? After seeing many opinions that JAWS are too loud, definitely don't want one of those. I don't want to be the guy that I am usually cussing, who's carving circles while everyone else is taking a break and blowing their eardrums. Don't need to be that obnoxious but not going to spend $250 and have it sound like stock either.

My buddy had a super Q on his M8 and it sounded awesome, better than the hps on my M7 in my opinion. Go for it!!

if you are running a aftermarket pipe it might not fit i have been fighting with skins for 3 weeks now and they say it will fit only with the stock pipe even then it does not fit well with the new oven muffler that looks like they took it off a car

the new style can does not use the bulkhead mount they want you to drill a hole in the bulkhead and install a spring on the bottom of the can to hold it on and it does not hold very well

i have been useing the bmp cans for a while and they fit good also the speedwerx fits well

Good to know about the mounting....thanks. Does the Super Q seal off pretty well against the outlet in the shock tower? I am running a BDX intake using under-hood air, so I do not want any exhaust coming back thru the exhaust outlet.

Not sure what sled you put it on. I put one on my 2010 M8 and the fit is great. There was no spring involved in mounting either, you unscrew the stock bulk head mount and bolt it to the bulk head using that hole, then you drill another hole where the other mount lines up on the bulk head and bolt it there. It is very secure and does not move at all. Everything lines up great. My only complaint is there is no plate or flange on the can to block off the outlets so it looks like snow could enter around the can.

hi
single 2 in pipe goes out the belly pan so not so good sealing

aslo a 2010 m8 uses the the m1000 can the 07-09 m8 uses the m7 style can so differnt sled they changed alot in 2010 on the m8

thats why you can save so much more weight on 2010 m8 compared to any other year m8 with just a can swap

I put about 2000 Miles on my M7 with a Skinz Ultra Q can, no issues at all, installed beautifully on my D&D single pipe. Any single pipe that can be used in conjunction with a stock can will fit w/o any issues. I think Skinz makes one of the best quality cans on the market, and unlike some cans mentioned here...It doesn't lose power.

Love the Super Q on my 09! Not too loud, but not stock by any means. Best fit and finish of any can I have ever owned. I would buy again if I had to do it over. Good Luck! :face-icon-small-hap

Jim, that's how they've always been. Never seen a super or ultra Q that didn't require you to drill to mount it. That's one of the things I like, it's not going anywhere when you bounce it around.

Also, of all the people that I know that have put them on 8's (07 & 08) I've never heard of a problem... maybe you just got a turd!

The one we had that was similar to the one you have (new oval design) fit the same as our other 1000 cans, I almost wonder if you didn't get sent a 1000 can???

I just mouted a super Q on my 09 M8 HCR and it bolted right on no drilling involved? Pulled the stock mount out and bolted in right on fit great. It's solid and sounds great in the garage, can't wait to hit the snow.

Sounds like there is 2 different styles?

On my 09 M8 the Super Q has 2 feet that go into the stock rubber mounts, just like the stocker.
But then I had to drill a hole to install a spring that holds the can in place.

I will try to take a pic tonight, can some that has the bolt type take a pic and post it?

I can't remember how mine mounted last year, but I'm almost positive that I didn't have to drill any holes. I have the ceramic coated...think that makes any difference?

Called SKinz

For the Super Q for a 2009 M8, which the same can is used for other years
the cyclinder style is the "older" style

the Oval style that uses the spring to mount is the new style that they changed to.

The stock 2010 M8 can looks like the M1000 can, but it is different.
2010 M8 part # 1712-633
2010 M1000 part # 1712-629

The Super Q for 2010 is different as well. 2010 M8 part # is SQ-1111C

Some pictures would help this thread.

I just ordered a Super-Q from Free Agent. I wonder what style it will be, new or old?

Got my 2010 M8 Super-Q at Eagle River PolCat when I picked up my HCR last Thursday. They had them in stock. I don't think they really look any different, but they should have different back pressure.

I talked to Kelsey at RKtek, but he has not had a chance to test the Super-Q or any others for that matter due to lack of snow. He said he works with Skins quite a bit. At this point it is a guessing game as to what can is going to be better, but for the price I will give the Q a try.

My only complaint is the lack of flange to cover up the excess gap in the shock tower exit hole, but I will just fab something up. A down and dirty quick fix would be to just use aluminum heat tape, but I hate to do things half a$$ed
