SUPER CHARGED GASSER??

I'm in the market for a new truck pretty quick. I curently drive an 07 Duramax and was thinking about ditching the diesal and getting a 6 ltr. My question is anyone turning those things up any and how. Maybe a supercharger or something. I suppose you void warranty. The eco boost is making huge power from a 6 cyl. Why cant some one make more power from a v8?

Ya i would not upgrade to a 6.0 and put a supercharger on it. Mileage sucks. In my opinion, I'd find newer duramax and do some mods EFI live, DPF delete, Intake, Lift pump, Built trans...etc.

go for it! my m3's mileage went up after I supercharged it. I helped a buddy install a super on his f150 and said he not did not see a change with his intown mpg's and towing his 2 place the mpgs if anything are better. truck can hold higher gears longer and not have rev to the moon to pull hills. if you have your foot stuck to the floor board all the time then yea mpg's will suffer.
your warrantee will be out the window, so will it be with a deleted diesel. if you want stock and dont tow heavy, get an eco boost and drive it stock.

Stick w/ the Duramax. I used to run boost(8.5lbs) on my 5.7 half ton. Milleage (6mpg towing) was alot worse than the Duramax & the Duramax still had more torque. You'll regret it.

youll be lucky to get 10 mpg out of the 6.0, installing a supercharger have fun with 5 mpg

Completely wrong unless your talking about while towing. I have a 1500 with the 6.0l and can tell you it does a lot better than that. Also its likely with a supercharger you will see a alight increase in mileage not decrease.

That being said for trucks that tow a lot you cannot beat the diesel.

I drive an 11 seirra denali 1/2tonner with the 6.2..pretty impressive for a 1/2er...just over 400 hp.. dang good fuel economy if you keep your foot out of it....is factory rated to tow a 9700 pd trailer....not a deisel for sure..but unless you pull a big trailer everyday they do fine....

My .02 worth:

Find me a truck that sports 700 HP and over 1000 Ft LBS. Torque qnd still gets 18 MPG that isnt a diesel. Yeah, the price of diesel sucks. Yeah the maintainence is a bit more involved. But, if you tow much there is nothing, and i mean NOTHING available in a gas vehicle that will do better.

Side note, a supercharger WILL hurt mileage unless it is a clutched version (very very very expensive). Superchargers are a constant HP draw on the engine...think of it like always running your A/C full blast times 5. A turbocharger is about the only mod you can do to significantly boost power with minimal impact on mileage.

If you ever decide you want EFI Live tuning, i do have a tune built up that turns back 24 MPG at 75 MPH on the highway on an 04 LLY duramax. Let me know and i can set you up with it.

I agree with the guys on keeping the dmax. The diesel will out pull any gas motor stock. Now if you start doing a few things to the diesel say by by any gasser. I would just do some maintenance on your truck and get a good tune and 4" exhaust and some gauges. I know diesel cost a little more but i think it is very well worth it.

for towing stay with diesel. and the dmax is at least a 3/4 ton and heavy = better for pulling a trailer. I don't care how much power those 1/2 ton Toyota / Chevy / Dodge / Ford drivers say they have, those lighter / shorter trucks ain't a 3/4 or one ton diesel long better than short) bed slowing that trailer down a corkscrew mountain road or even resisting a slide on a icy flat highway. I've done both - no comparison, not even close. For power / stability stay with the duramax - power is there (I can't believe you need to mod that engine for power that will tow better than any charged gasser) plus it's more than 1/2 ton truck heavy.

A gas in a 3/4 ton or one ton is just a cheaper way to get into a heavy truck, but no way the power is there.

My 6.0 Chevy gas 1/2 does 'pretty good' and so did my V10 Ford gas, and yes they can tow a trailer / camper but compared to the diesels I have it is inferior not just for power but stability (long wheelbase) on the road.

That's my opinion!

That's a strong motor but the 6.0 will probably pull better.

The 6.2 is a sportier motor but the 6.0 is more robust.

actually, I like it much better then my 3/4 ton burb with a 6.0..pulls way stronger then that truck would..course wont hold a candle to the 8.1 burb.......

I've drove the 6.2. It is a great motor. I'm just saying that GM believes the 6.0 is a better motor for towing. I'll find you something about it. I think over the long run they feel it will hold up better to towing.

Keep your diesel. My friend supercharged his Lincoln truck and while its a beast now, the mileage sucks. I think he said he gets like 12mpg average.

That's what most diesels i have been around get too. Everyone claims great mileage but i have yet to see it.

no..the burb with the 6.0 was 3.73...my denali has 3.08's...get a chance take one for a spin..they run pretty good...

The word is the 6.2 is all Aluminum, 6.0 is Iron and aluminum, the 6.2 does not cool as well, does not have as thick of cylinder sleeves so therefor it won't hold up to LONG TERM towing like the 6.0 will.

The 6.0 also has a flatter torque curve keeping it in the towing power curve for a better amount of time.

Agreed the 6.2 is a fun motor to drive but it is a sportier motor. I'm sure it tows great but I haven't towed with it, and GM believes that over the long term it won't hold up. Weekend warriors are fine, it's the guy that tows 5-7 days a week.

The newer diesels, yeah. Without modifications that basically destroy the warranty and make them emissions non-compliant they do get pretty crummy mileage. But if this fella is talking an older, pre DPF diesel, With noting but an aftermarket exhaust and some simple (custom, not cookie cutter) tuning its not irregular for an 8000 pound duramax to return 22+ MPG unloaded. The first generation duramax engine averaged 19-20 MPG unmodified. Mine still gets 18 while producing just under 700 HP.

99% of those out there towing even 3 days a week wouldnt be using a 1/2 ton to begin with..let alone gas(although with that said..best bone stock puller out there that I have seen is a 8.1(at work we have them all from 3500's thru the 6500's..gas and diesel with the allison..).by far the truck of choice when the boys have to haul a load across the state they grab the keys to one of the 8.1 trucks....
