Anyone know anything about sunny flats outside of mt shasta right now? I heard there is some good riding to be had? Maybe im saying the name wrong. Was hoping to plan a sunday ride but need more info... location... snow conditions... thanks in advance.

Haven't spoken to anyone who has unloaded at Bunny Flats. I know they're riding on the mountain, I see lots of sleds headed up and down throughout the day. I'm waiting for another storm. Lots of big rocks and stumps up on the mountain.

My riding group rode Medicine Lake this week and had a great time. That's closer for you. About 2 feet at lake and 4-5 feet on some of the play areas.

Have fun,

Kale

Makaio,

Thanks for pics. I've heard coverage was good, but wasn't a believer until I saw your pics. I'll head up after our next storm(s). Can you play in the trees from old ski bowl down to Bunny Flats or is there not enough coverage? A buddy of mine who skis told me 4-5' in trees and 6-8' above tree line. From the looks of your pics, he might be right.

Lots of sleds out today?

Kale, I would say your buddies right on with his estimations of coverage. There are still obstacles that are poking out here and there so you have to be on the look out.

Lots of sleds today with a few "Parking Lot Supperstars"! But from what I could gather most of the people on sleds up there use them to get up a hill so they can ski/snowboard down. I would say 80% of the sleds up there yesterday were used for that.

You can play in the trees on the way up to the old ski bowl or follow the road up. From what I could gather it's all open to riding except the designated "wilderness" areas.

I'm in RB and always looking for people to ride with.

so you can actually ride that bowl where the old ski area used to be?? i looked at a wilderness map so i know where the boundarys are, but was wondering if the area between the two ridges is open, or do they frown upon it?? How is it with its southern exposure?? that looks like some awesome riding!

The top of the old ski bowl is where those pics were taken from. The wilderness area is marked and pretty well delinated to keep people out. I imagine when the snow is freah and deep the place is killer.

I'm thinking about trying to make a trip back up there next Saturday if we don't get some snow closer to home. The longer drives don't seem so bad now that I have a deck:bounce:!

Thanks for updates. We'll have to hook up for a ride or two this year. I'll let you know my plans for this weekend.

Good riding on the mountain, especially with the base we have now. If we can get a good dumping, the mountain is fun in the deep snow.

2toneevo,

Old ski bowl and riding on right hand side of road up to ski bowl (when you're heading up) is legal. There are some good ditches down toward new ski area that are fun to play in. Old ski bowl is fun to climb in, not sure how stable snow is right now.
