parking at Greenwater

:cool:Mike,

The road is blocked at the gravel pit, so everybody parked from there all the way down to the highway! There were many people up there today. Also, the groomer hadn't groomed so the roads were bad. I left early, but others that stayed later said the groomer was working when they left.

Have a good ride!

Dan

Thursday the plowed.
Parking is at the gravel pit and the lot below that--they have it snow burmed at the gravel pit. It was plowed all the way to the upper paved lot--you could bust through--but the road is barely wide enough to get your truck through.

Yes, Thursday is the last day the snowplow truck ran. He was told to stop plowing by the state due to the lack of funds. The groomer was out Thursday night, but it only groomed the 70 and 7065 roads, and then out to the end of the meadows past the cabin. They were just warming up the groomer as I was coming out Saturday afternoon and was planing on grooming up the same roads again, as well as trying to get down to the 1900 to finally get that cleaned up. He wasn't going to do Pyramid pass until maybe Sunday night. (or whenever if finally quits snowing for a day or two)
For anyone thinking about driving past the road closed sign at the lower gravel pit, DON'T. Not only are you asking for a big ticket, but don't be suprised if you find that the berms at the road closure have been closed solid and gotten bigger to boot!
Greenwater is rather unique in that the same person has the contract for both the grooming AND the plowing. The ONLY reason that he left the opening in the berm at the gravel pit is so he can get the truck with fuel up to the groomer.
If he has to block it completely, that means moving the groomer down to the gravel pit and using more grooming time on the road rather than on the trails.
Since it is cheaper to run the plow truck than the groomer over the same strech of road, we are looking into the possibility of using our grooming funds to plow the road instead of groom it.

Again, the grooming is now back on schedule, but with as many people as we had on Saturday, no amount of grooming would have been able to keep the trails flat all day.
And if anyone has any other ideas, we would love to hear them at the monthly grooming meetings. (First monday of the month, 7 PM at Clem's shop in Enumclaw)

hire the state to snow blow the road up to the reg parking area, there is one down at the state lot down on 410, state parks also has one and they where using it at gallagher saturday, it showed up on a lowboy,, put a fund together to pay to have it trucked over and get it done or have the DOT drive a few miles and do it....

Amazing!! Everyone complains when the road is open and they have to deal with the 12% (The Matterhorn), and now that we are having the best snow conditions that we have had in years, you are complaining that you have to park a little lower on the mountain..

Is this a sign of old age?? All old men groan and mutter..

Oh, there were plenty of complaints..... just not in this thread.
Mike, I hope you had a good ride Sunday. I was told the trails were MUCH better on Sunday.
Graveler, we would have loved to get the state to bring up the snowblower, but since they don't have any money, that ain't happening.
However, we had a lot of people show up at the grooming meeting Monday night, and many of them stepped up to the plate to make things happen. Some of the local equipment companies are either donating equipment and time, or giving us ridiculously low rental rates. Ron from R+R Grooming (they do both the plowing and grooming) has also offered to donate his time and equipment to plow. As long as we pay for his fuel, he will keep plowing. (so make sure to thank him if you see him)
Since the state is out of money, it's up to us to keep the road open. (and if we can't keep both lanes plowed, the Forest service WILL shut down the road at the hiway for safety reasons, then we are REALLY screwed)
So, if you can help out, please do. The local dealers, snowmobile clubs, and individuals have already pledged to help out, but with all this snow, it looks like a nice long season, and diesel isn't cheap.
