Summit X steering column for Non-X 04 Rev

I have an 04 Rev Summit with the non-X steering column and U shaped bars. I put a 4" PowerMad riser on it but i can't keep it in place, it rotates forward/back pretty easy and cost me a few close calls when they went forward and i lost my balance. Anyway what do i have to do to get the snocheck X style steering column and riser installed?

to install a t stem style steering post is very easy. remove your console around the steering post and the pipe. there are 2 bolts at the end connected to the steering rack and there are 2 bolts connected to the frame on the top near the bars. remove these 4 bolts, fish out the steering post, install the new one and bolt up. the only thing you may need to modify is your throttle cable and brake line depending on how high of a riser you put on.

bars

sen someplace where a guy used poo bar clamps to keep his bars from moving, i think they are knurled a little more than doo and grip the bars better, just a thought, good luck , Ken

On my 04, I installed a complete race handlebar kit, that included the T-steering post and and flat race handlebars. They come with the grips on heated grips installed. All that was required was to transfer over the controls. I ordered an OEM kit through a dealer, should still be available. This setup is more durable than the RSI T-Bar conversion but a little harder to install.

the adaptors are cheap but to me they look like a mess. the t post with a riser is a much cleaner setup. if you are on a budget, go for the adaptor it will work just as good.

another little trick if you are going to have the collum out is to drill a new set of holes in the front end of the bracket that holds the collum in place and push the whole colum forward. use the hole that is already for the front to now hold the rear bolt in place. take the plastic guard that clips araound the collum and turn it around, you will notice that thier are already clips in place to do this. it pushes your bars ahead 2 inches and gives alot more leverage over your sled.
