After all the blood ,sweat and dollars my fun machine has bitten the dust, redid the clutch fixed the front cooler did the top end $$$$$$$$ drove 14k then the big bang theory took place. Rod went through the bottom of the engine. It was quite impressive, there was so much force it actually shattered the spark plug. Needless to say if you are looking for a way to make your bank account diminish just buy a 1000.
Thinking of going for an 09 XP any comments?
 
Thats horible. Ive never heard of a sled engine throwing a rod threw the block, that, is, wierd. Sorry to here it man. If it makes you feel better (get ready)...... My dad rolled his 99 summit 670 down a 300ft cliff (days after he bought it!), pulled it out and fixed er up (included a top-end rebiuld), rebuilt 91 yamaha phazer top-end (broken fan belt/overheated), rebuilt 03 polaris 800 top-end, and now the 03 polaris is on the way to a SHOP where its getting its water/oil pump checked out (it's F'd up) and ANOTHER top-end rebuild (wasn't getting oil and lost a piston ring)........ Feel better??? I know it sucks, wish I could just have a sled with 0 problems... I feel ya man... I feel ya :(:(:(:(

Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. I bought an xp and love it! I was a polaris guy! You do have to get it set up right, but that's easy. Most of the problems i've read about have to do with improper set up on the xp. Huge difference between the rev and the new xp. I road both of my dads sleds before my puchase. We beat the crap out of our sleds. They're tougher than the rumors. They messed up bad on the 08's but the 09's have the new shaft. I geared, clutched, can, y pipe, air box, reeds, vents, and it rips! I was affraid to any more motor work for fear of your problem. I'm sick of blowing motors up. These sleds with these mods+ good rider really hold there own.
 
Think that spark plug breaking might have anything to do with detonation? I've seen that happen before and it's not good on cranks and bearings either. Not diagnosing but just an idea.
 
1000--boom!!

I had my 1000 blow a rod out of the block as well---but I was lucky enough that it was 1 month before the warrenty was done:D.

Get a price from your dealer to do a short block--ya never know--maybe doo will help cover some of the price if you ask nicely;). The 07 bottom end had more woof than my 05 engine ever had.

The 09 XP is a nice ride--But I am pushing 1 more year on my 1000 before it goes to my sons and I will order a new XP when they put the 800 E-Tech in!!

Sad to hear man, i cant wait to get my 1000 out on the snow this weekend...

got any video of that thing?? i am just curious to see how they do in what kinda snow. I will get some to make you miss yours.
 
I would buy it if it were easier to pick up. I have 2 of them and a spare engine/ blocks and bunch of parts. In Alaska here, and your just too far away. Damn!
