Check Everything Over!!!

Just Last night i started the sleds and looking it over i found a broken Motor Mount. Motor was Moving when on the gas ... Shut it off try moving it with a Pry bar and WAALLAAA Broken Front Left Rubber Mount..

Little 600 Motor Got Balls !!!

My .02

Maby unnecessary but I start my sled one time every month throug out the summer, just to make sure that everything is lubricated and working

IMO... Its better to run the sled at the end of the season and check everything over. Then fog the engine, stabilize the gas and run the fuel out of the carbs if ur sled has them. Running and stopping an engine int the off season causes condensation and moisture to build up in the engine causing rust.

Fix anything in the off season that doesnt require engine start up. Then run the engine around the first snow so u can fix anything else up and get some tuning in if required. just my opinion.

I've never fogged a sled. I just syphin the excess fuel out at the end of the season, and leave just enough to start it up a few times over the summer. never had any issues.

besides, its fun to start it up over the summer! go sit in the garage and smell the 2-stroke! MMM!! :face-icon-small-hap maybe rip around the yard every now and then :face-icon-small-win

Yeah i can see where ur comin from! LOL. Guess i just like to be on the safe side. do u at least stabilize the fuel? Cuz the shelflife of gasoline is only about 30 days nowadays!

Nope. I suck as much out of the tank as possible. Then if i start it during the summer I might give it a splash or two and run it for a little while... basically i slowly run a little fuel through it at a time. I dont have a schedule or anything, i just run it when i feel like it... haha

My cousin swears on fogging (hes the head mechanic at a doo dealership and has an etec)... and maybe these newer sleds are more sensitive about it... my carbed '02 edge has never been fogged or used stable and it still runs like a champ! If I still had my Assault, it would probably be fogged... Then I'd have to fire up the chainsaw for the 2-stroke smell!!! haha

Chunkysoup is on the money. Starting the sled periodically isn't advised. I would however add draining the carb float bowls, as there's always some in there even when the sled stops running. Personally I would fog, close petcock, drain carbs and the tank. The extra effort is worth it. jmo

ok so i was stupid didnt drain just shut off line and was planing on filling to and adding fuel stabilizer but i forgot about it and now i am modding and dont know what to do to ensure i am safe for the first ride. what do you sugest its an xlt w/ carbs runs on 85 octane

I would remove the carbs and give them a good thorough cleaning before u start it. remove all the old fuel that may be in it and add fresh fuel with some seafoam. why 85 octane?

I leave my fuel in my sled and all summer long with no worries. Sits in enclosed trailer outside all summer. Starts up and rips great every year. I don't buy into fuel stabilizer bit. Never have. Lawnmowers, weed wackers, edgers, chainsaws sit all winter long and start up and run great every spring. I have never had a "fuel" problem on anything. Another example. Let my CR 250 sit for a 1.5 year with half tank of fuel. Started first kick and ran great. Just my experience.

Thats pretty impressive! U either have really good fuel where u r or u get very lucky! I used to work at a dealership and i cant count the times people brought sleds in with fuel still in them from the past year! Every one of those sleds fuel turned green and either clogged up the carburetors or the fuel filters! If u go to school for this stuff it is one of the first things u learn is about fuel! Its even a bigger problem with the smaller engines like u said lawnmowers, trimmers, and chainsaws. the problem with those is that the carburetors have such small passages that they get gummed up that much easier and tend not to run when u first want to start them up after sitting! So like i said im very surprised with the luck u have had but hey if it works for u, do what ya gotta do!

Storing in an in closed trailer is a NO NO unless you have all the doors open. I don't know how many sleds have came though my shop that were stored in an enclosed trailer that had crank problems all do to rust.
Make sure if you have your sleds in an enclosed trailer open it up they have to breath (The sled)
PS not a fan of stating up a sled in the summer, fogging is better.
