suggestions on how to get the exhaust valves out???

Ok so since i was fouling plugs on the PTO side figured i would look at the exhaust valve...needless to say it is full of black sticky oil....thinking this is my problem for the fouling

took the cover off and took the bolt off holding the orange piece and arent they just suppose to slide out....well i have been pulling on mine and they wont come out.....need some help

any suggestions

Under the orange bellows, there are 4 allen head bolts you need to remove. Then the the valves and the lower valve housing will come free. happy cleaning!

Did you take the 4 allen head screws out under the bellows if so use a wooden dowl and ever so slightly pry up on one side of the housing and slightly tap with a screw driver handle and it should pop there are 2 dowls that go in to the the block so they a little snug

ok i deserve that one :D

now the bellows look ok but when i fold them back abit you get see its getting worn on the part where the (for lack of a better word) nut touches them...when i look on the inside they look fine just worn on the out side abit. So not a rip but should i replace this?? How much are they normally

thanks

Interesting point i learned last night

When you pull the exhaust valves to clean them, make sure you dont forget to clean the "breather hole" on the cylinder. THis can get clogged aswell and cause you problems with your valves

How i was told to clean them
1. Make sure your piston is at bottom dead centre. (so that any carbon will be ontop and blown out instead of going into the case:eek:)

2. take a very small drill bit and slowly and carefully insert into the hole by hand no drill used here only use your hand and make sure you arent "drilling the hole" you are only using this as a tool to knock carbon out not drilling the hole....caution!!!!!! do not push hard i was told the hole gets smaller as you get to the piston. Gradually decrease the size of the bit till you knock out the carbon.

3. Take a pipe cleaner and again slowly and carefully insert it into the hole just to clean it up.

Going to try this one mine....hope this helps and is good info for all.....if you don't agree please tell me I am not nearly as knowledgeable as a lot of you on here with the 900s

Sounds a little scary to me, I wouldn't feel comfortable drilling in there with the cylinder installed I don't think.

Yeah that sounds a lot better lol. I clean my VES system twice a year and have never had a problem other than a torn bellows or 2. I have never cleaned out the pressure port though.

I just use a length of wire with the piston down.
With piston up, debris would not go in the case, but wire could scratch the piston.

Not sure about the drill idea, material is soft, the hole is tiny and longer than most drill bits....

hey you want to make sure the piston is down and use a pipe cleaner put a little brake cleaner on the pipe cleaner and slow and carefully incert it in to the hole and turn it slowly like your drilling and go in about two inches and pull it out there you just cleaned the pressure hole don't use a drill bit
