Stuck flywheel/mag on '97 SX Vmax700

Trying to replace the stator on a '97 700 triple. I already got the flywheel off the '02 parts motor but the '97 motor will not come off. Already tried heating, impacting, banging with hammer... Won't budge. I believe i need a 2-jaw puller that can fit back behind the flywheel to catch the back edge, but all the pullers i've tried won't fit in the slot on the right side. Anyone know of a puller for this and/or anymore ideas. Thanks

I use a steering wheel puller. Three bolts threaded into the flywheel and pull bolt against the crankshaft. Make sure the bolts you use in the flywheel are the right size and thread. Tighten the puller then tap on the end of the puller bolt. Tighten alittle more, tap on the puller bolt, again and again. I have pulled over a dozen flywheels with my puller.

Pretty sure the stators are different from 97 to 02, and yes a steering wheel puller is what you need to remove it.

Good call, Ya the dual head light electrical systems in 02 has a differant stator. It will fit but will not work correctly.

Got er. Sure makes things simple when you got the right tool. Thanks for the replies. Moved on to bigger problems now... read my new thread and see what you think
