Went for a rip the other day, unloaded at 2500' rode to 6500' ,

1. my idle at 2500' is way up around engagment 4000rpm,at 6500' it is around 2000 rpm
2.real hard time starting this pig
3.all of a sudden dies, rpm gauge sticks at 3k,i'm worried, open panel give primary a turn, seems real easy though it turn all the way but real easy, one handed, decide to give it a pull it fires up,ride the rest of the day hard, got a month of warranty left,so you know, nothin happens after, besides every time i stop it it's friggin ignorant to start.
4.back to the truck and idle is way up again, didnt have new spare plug to try so couldnt cross that equation off.

Came home decided to do a compression test, cold its at 110# both cyl even, let it idle, with new plugs now for 10-15 min shut down, pull plugs wot i'm gettin 80# both cyl

It still runs like a raped ape.but am kinda worried,3650 klm
Any thoughts all.

Seems like the motor is lean at 2,500 and rich at 6,500 ft. So altitude compensation not working. First thought would be the carb/fuel mixture control? How to check out if system is working??

Not to sound too silly but.....did you try just turning the idle down or make sure the throttle cable isn't kinked/routed differently or snow under the throttle flipper???

Original motor?
Yes.

My thoughts exactly.Should buy the service manual for this.

If i turn the idle down at 2500' it would not run at correct rpm at 6500', correct?
I dont think i should have to touch the idle screw since i never have before.
I did make sure no air lines(dpm)/or cables were kinked or routed wrong..i.e.. geting pinched off.

any thoughts on the compression #'s as well.

Regarding how it is hard to start once it is warm, make sure that red knob for heated carb is turned to off. Also, I was told that if it idles high when you start it to just turn the choke on for a few secs and that should make it chill out on the rpm's. Or, you could have your throttle sensor reset through them ecm. Thats what i had my dealer do and i havent had that problem since

With a compression that low you have a problem, Orignal motor in 07 were notorius for failing, And a good sign of this happening was the sudden dying. If you still have a warranty you should take the sled to your Dealer. Honestly I think there is something wrong with the motor, Clipped ring are bad reeds, Ive had sleds that would run with a clipped ring but was hard to start and reeds that are bad will also make a sled hard to start when its warm. The high idle could be because of a air leak, bad seal are carb boot, Have you blown any belts latley wrapping belt cords behind the primary?

110 is on the low side 80 is way way low. When it gets warmed up with the compretion this low it will make her a biotch to start. If you got 80lbs you got big problems. It is weird that it is 80 in both holes. But it should be like 140 at the lowest.

Well tried another compression gauge and pretty much same sort of readings.

When it gets warmed up with the compretion this low it will make her a biotch to start.
I was thinkin that way as well.

It is weird that it is 80 in both holes.
no doubt.

The high idle could be because of a air leak, bad seal are carb boot, Have you blown any belts latley wrapping belt cords behind the primary?

Then you'd think the high idle would be at all elevations, and no blown belts that have grenaded, just the usuall wear.
I think i will just take it in and see what happens, cross my fingers i get her back in a timely fashion.

thanks for input people.
Trevor.
