Stranded sled. Clutch help please.

Well the old girl finally let me down today.Sled was ripping and all was well when it had a sluggish feel to it. I rode up to where my group was stopped and the clutch wouldn't disengage. I pulled it off and noticed that it was out all the way. I need to get it repaired so I can retrieve my sled. Any ideas what could have caused this? I am going to get a clutch tool tommorrow to try and see what's going on. I hate to leave my sled out all by itself for any length of time. Thanks for all good replys. Oh ya sled is an 04 rev 800.

same thing happened to me if your taking about the primary. your spring cab probably came loose and fell off. i rode mine out that way. fully engaged. sucked but it was better than leaving it.

i had the main bushing push back into the spring and the clutch would not release.we lifted the rear so i could start it with the track turning then gas it, drop it and go. It's hard on parts but easier than pulling it out.

one of my roller arms broke and got lodged in there not releasing the clutch, i fug'd with it until it fell out and limped it slowly to the trailer with just two roller arm working the clutch

I had the clutch rebuilt and got it installed on the hill. Coming out the clutch stuck again. I made it to the truck and got out but I still don't know why it happened. Could my secondary be causing my primary to open up too far? Any ideas?

When it sticks is a roller arm sticking over a ramp at all?

I have seen that happen if the primary bolt comes a bit loose from not being properly torqued. Just throwing out ideas.

All areas to inspect on primary.
-Sliding sheave bushing
-Spring cap and bushing
-Primary spring
-Roller arms
-Rollers and roller pins
-Slider shoes
-Orings
-Ramps
-Sheaves themselves

Rollers should roll freely without much if any side to side play. Also not much play up and down on the pin.

Bushings if worn out could be metal to metal on the fixed sheave post. An 04 depending on miles would definitely be due for bushings all the way around.

Just thoughts for you.

Is the main clutch bolt a little loose? That can allow the outer cup to move out and the arms to go past the end of the ramp.

ya i had a little of same problem only i was using reverse at the time getting it up on trailer after riding, check primary bolt that holds it all together (on crank) mine loosened up and started comming apart.

Thanks for the tips. It must be that the bolt came loose as I had taken the clutch in to a good shop and they went through it and replaced the parts that needed. I wasn't thinking about tourquing the bolt down. I just had the tools in my tool kit on the sled. Gonna try it again. Snow is getting deep here in Washington. Have a great winter.
