stolen tether cord

i have a 2006 renegade 800 and someone stole my tether cord is there any way of rigging it with out a complete new tether system? or will just any tether cord from a rev work? any help would be greatly appreciated

The dealer should be able to program you a new one but I would reccomend two. I always keep a spare for just this kind of thing. Someone elses tether will let it start but it will not rev over about 3000 rpm.

Remove Your Old Key From Mpem!

your dealer can also remove your dess key from your sled and will no longer work to run your sled.. so who ever has your key cannot still your sled

Makes me think there must be a way to bypass it. 3000 rpm won't even engage the clutch to get off the mountain. I've had a bad connection before and it did retard the motor. figured it out after changing plugs and checking fuses.
Anyone bypassed? And How?

The actual Tether & post are the same on all sleds. Catch is the tether has to be programmed to your sleds computer (MPEM) by dealer. I think you could just pull your MPEM and take it into dealer and have them program a new tether to it.

A tether programmed to a different sled won't work with yours unless reprogrammed. It should still start it, problem is it won't rev high enough to move the sled.

I'm just wondering why they would take the tether cord? Does this mean that a used cord can be reprogrammed to a different sled for a spare? That would mean one more thing to guard.

Don't quote me on this...

But I think this works if I remember it correctly:

Disconnect the connector that has the Black/White, White/Gray, and Black/Green wires to the tether cord switch. Put a jumper wire between the Black/White and the Black/Green wires and try that.

Your tether was taken by someone whom you pissed off and/or was just being a dik. Word of warning. If you do a bypass, and do it wrong you will damage the MPEM. I was told by my dealer that it takes about two hours to bypass. Don't know myself. DESS is one of the reasons I bought a DOO. A spare tether is a must.

The dealer should have a tether, just had to get a new one last week. If you just the sled will not run without the tether, won't even fire, thats kill switch side of the tether, but if its a bad connection, it won't rev past 3. My dealer had a little hand held programmer, they had an adapter and hooked a 9 V battery to the MPEM, and programmed it through the DESS plug on the console. They got $30 for the key and $20 for the programming, expensive, yes, but not being stranded 40 miles from the truck with a dead sled, priceless!
