Same here Firecat, only our ride is about 2100 miles, and lovin every minute of it. Never seems to get old, just different enuff each year to always be interesting.
One pet peeve, the trailers should all be stopped no closer than 500 miles out. If you can't ride it that far, stay home, you don't deservr the experience.

We've stayed all over. Spearfish a couple years, Belle Forsche 1 year, Rapid City, rented a big cabin in Lead for a few years, stayed in Sundance 1 year, gave up camping quite a few years ago, getting too crowded and stupid, unfortunately. Always had fun, used to be a few more interesting unique folks around, the last years the people seem to be getting a bit plastic and not really there for the experience , but more to be seen there.
And this hauling your ride to the outskirts in a pretty new trailer, putting on your brand new shiny leathers and riding around SD, almost like you know what you're doing, with an abundance of "look what a biker I am" attitude, just pisses me off. As I said 500 mile out should be maximum proximity for trailers, if you can't make it from there, perfect, the rally don't need ya.

My wife and I have laught about the new leather thing for years. So true! We make the run to the Black Hills 3 or 4 times a summer for a 3 day, 1200 mile weekend. Got a room at the Rushmore Plaza for the openning weekend of the Rally. Al
