Stock vs After market pipe. ???????

Just smashed up my hood and pipe on the 07 summit REV:beer;:beer;:beer;. It has a after market can on it, with stock pipe and y. and a bunch of other Mods. Basicly , stoked on the way its running.

Am I really going to get that much more Horse power out of an after marked pipe like an SLP or straightline????????

SLP ?
Straightline?
Bikeman?
CPI?

Its hard to get much more performance better then the stock. Ive tried a pipe in the past and would never waste money again. I ride 10,000 feet and above, down lower it may work better but not up above.

I have 3 aftermarket pipes and the Aaen works best. It a fatty and adds a ton of mid torque and top end as well.Only for the 07.

X2 on the Aaen pipe! I ride at 10K and it works very well! I smashed my stock pipe up a few weeks ago (dang trees anyhow...lol) and I thought about it this way....if (and that's a big if) you can find a stock pipe that is not rusted, beat-up, etc....it's still gonna cost you a couple hundred maybe more, why not spend another couple hundred and get the Aaen, gain a few ponies and loose a few pounds at the same time?

From my experience, pipes don't make much of a difference. I ran a CPI pipe for a year, but went back to stock now. It ran great, but I didn't notice a difference. With RK TEK's stuff Kelsey recommended running the stock pipe by far. The aftermarket ones just can't mimic the airflow and the tones good enough. My advice, save the money on the pipe. The MOST your gonna gain is a little weight and 3-5HP max. Stick the money into a good clutch kit!

Hey byeatts, which pipes did you compare on the '07? Did you use their can too?

As for dsmitty's comments, your '04 Summit's porting is a joke compared to the '07 800R and that DOES make a huge diff when it comes to pipes. I don't mean to bash but sometimes you need to understand the sled in question may NOT respond the way yours does because of physical differences. Don't believe me? Kelsey had good luck with Dynoport exhausts on the 800R - why don't you speak with him and THEN get back to us! :face-icon-small-hap

i have an spi one on mine. it was on there when i got it and i never got the stock with it to compare. i had a buddy try the pipe out and he liked his stock one better. he said my pipe had more top end but he lost bottom end. i suppose that jetting makes a difference in that. by the way spi claims like 10 to 12 hp on the top and they dont list bottom so who knows.

I have spoken with him, and that's what he told me. Now, he was referring to my sled, so he could very easily have a different opinion on a different motor. I'm just speaking from my experiences, maybe the 800R does respond better.

HOWEVER, I find it really hard to believe that anyone will truly gain the HP that's advertised on an otherwise stock motor. Especially if you do not do the whole exhaust (Y-Pipe, Pipe, Can combo). I just realistically do not see these types of gains happening, without other hefty mods. I was simply saying that there are better things that money can be put into that will give you a better overall performance.

For example, a clutch kit!

Agreed on the clutch kit but, in this case, the OP NEEDS a new pipe anyway and there are gains to be had so it is worth it! Rich Daly doesn't BS and he told me specifically that he made 4-6 HP more (10 in the mids) with his Dynoport pipe for the '07. As for your '04; if you had your motor ported you'd be shocked at how much harder your sled will pull with one of his pipes - I'm speaking from experience, not internet conjecture.

I can agree that it might be worth it in the situation, to a point. You can get a stock pipe quite a bit cheap yet, if you look for a used one. I do believe that you could get 4-6 hp out of a pipe. However, as in the post above you're not going to get 10-11 as most companys will advertise.

OP if you have the extra cash lying around go for it. You will notice a difference, but don't expect a 11hp difference!

In the midrange you actually can. The two companies that I see over inflating their OVERALL HP gains are BMP and CPI. Dynoport and Aaen seem to be spot on with their claims.

Cheers,

Everytime I answer a question like this someone gets butt hurt and I get hate mail calls. Lets just say I compared all pipes with matching cans and the Aaen was the real deal. The fat portion/ stinger is Much larger then the competitors and I raised the hood at the hinge to allow for clearance.

....and that's the situation he's in right now......yeah he could pick up a "good" used pipe for 1/2 what a new aftermarket will cost, but he may sit side lined for awhile looking for this "good" used pipe. So for a couple hundred more, save 5lbs, gain some HP and be riding in a few days is a no brainer to me.
