Stock Pro or a Dragon 700 turbo?

I think this is a tough call. I ride a td8 as my primary. When it was down I spent 3 weeks on an 12 assault loaner. The chassis is awesome and I have zero bad to say about it. The engine just feels weak in stock form. I think I'm used to the power of the turbo so that adds to my impression of the stock pro motor and I'm just tryin to make myself feel better about not snowchecking. I love my td8 and would much rather ride it instead of the 12 pro assault. Probably get a bunch of criticism for that but I just wasn't overwhelmed enough by the pro to drop 12k and drop a ton of hp. Not saying a dragon is as good as a.pro cause its not but its pretty dam good, add a turbo and its great imo.

I've had both and a stock pro for sure!! You can always add a turbo to it later as well. That's what I did last year. This year the rest of my buddies dumped their turboed dragons and went to stock pro's as well. They are all happy with the decision.

Stock pro

I've had both went from td7 to stock pro and would say I missed the power but the pro chassis is much more fun to ride especially in the trees. It just floats and doesn't trench like the dragon. The dragons do do well with an aftermarket suspension and camo extreme track though if you can find one all set up

Thanks everyone for the input, a lot of pro folks out there. I agree they are fun to ride. I went with the TD7. Couple of extras though 163, holz everything, floats, ice age, powder pros, etc... For 2/3rds of the price of a pro I could afford to get into my first turbo sled. Now, I'm nervous that I will never want to ride stock hp again...

I took the same route, but I'm still not sure of the decision. I just traded my 08 D8 (+ cash) for a Sweet 09 TD8 163.
The '09 Dragon has a Boondocker Turbo with intercooler, Fuel controller and EGTS. It has a Timbersled Rear with Fox Floats and Ice age Rails.
Up front are ZBros arms and Walker Evans needle clickers.
Powder Pro skis, a fresh camoplast full clip 2.5" track with anti-ratchet drivers. The sled has 1050 miles (2010 update done at 400). This sled had an original invoice of $20,500 with dealer added upgrades, the timbersled skid, track and more were added later. (around 25k invested) Previous owner had no reliability problems.

How would this compare to a stock PRO? I'm considering trading to a Stock Pro come snow show time. (yes, before i even ride the turbo) I normally ride St. Helens and Adams. I was dissapointed with the power of the stock 08 Dragon (compared to my old Josh Cutler twin pipe Edge Sled) but it was WAY more fun to ride. As far as skill level; I mainly like backcountry riding but I wont have a segment in a sled film any time soon. LOL

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have already stated I like the dragon chasis with a turbo over the stock pro. I always hear people saying they go places on a stock pro they couldn't on a dragon turbo. Probably true with sidehilling as Matt and James tested on a steep face but that is what I consider "professional" style riding. 95% of riders couldn't hold consistent sidehill on those faces even with old rasmussen or burandts sleds. I love the iq chasis and with some up grades it does extremely well. I used that loaner 12 assault while my td8 was down and I certainly couldn't ( maybe wouldn't because of lack of confidence in motor) take it where my td8 would go and I'm not just talkin open faces. I'm talking wolf creek trees. I think you are gonna be pumped come winter.

Just know a turbo is not for everyone. Alot of people actually have a hard time riding a turbo. id at least ride your TD8 since you already have it and has a lot of nice upgrades. As far as a stock pro. If your wanting to get into a pro dont ride your turbo if you havent. Otherwise it will feel way underpowered. Im coming from a Tapex to a Tpro. I cant wait to ride it this winter. I rode a stock 12 pro a few times last year and loved it (except for the power).

Keep the Turbo Dragon or swap for a PRO??

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I feel blessed to even be considering these options. 7 years and 11 sleds ago i was stilll riding a '89 indy 500 and loving it. I never should have rode my buddys '97 700 SKS, I'd still be riding the indy 500 and not know any different. LOL
Every sled was a little better, a little more fun, a little more expensive.
What really spoiled me was the power of a built Edge Chassis sled i had. I got a Dragon while i still had the Edge and even though the Edge would run away and hide from the Dragon on the hills, the Dragon was more fun to ride so i sold the Edge. The Dragon was all good last year until my buddy ruined my GOPRO video by blowing by me on his Carls Cycle built NA Dragon on the way to the summit.
So here i am, its July, I have a sweet tricked out Turbo Dragon in the garage that i havent even ridden yet and I sit here on SnoWest contemplating trading it for a Pro. Would this qualify as some kind of a mental disability?LOL

I guess it comes down to these questions:

Is the Pro chassis as much better than a tricked out Dragon (never mind the turbo) as the Dragon was better than the Edge?

Will I really like the Turbo? Like noted in the previous post "Turbos arn't for everyone" I know I'll love it in the deep snow and on hills but will it be "rideable" in the trees for an average rider?

Financially would it be wiser to move to a Pro this season before the Dragons value drop any more?

Ive only rode a dragon a handful of times but ill say this. YES a pro is that much better then a dragon. Hell ill even say a pro is that much better then anything out right now. I never thought id leave a turbo 4 stroke for a 2 stroke but the pro did just that.

OK, I think i got it::light:

Dont ride the Turbo Dragon or a stock Pro will feel underpowdered.
Dont Ride a Pro or I wont be happy with the ride of the Dragon.
Great, the only right answer is a Turbo Pro!
Maybe next year???
!@#$%^&* I never should have ever rode that '97 SKS!

So Dave.......if your having so much trouble to decide what to do about these new sleds ,i have a fix for you.I will pull the old 97 700 you speak of out of retirement for you, park my Carl Cycle sled and just ride your turbo sled and all the problems are solved, you know you like how well that 700 worked with that 151 and IQ suspension and Ryde Fx...just a thought to help you out.
ps.....sorry to ruin your Go Pro video....
