After messing around with the settings on the skid its still trenching pretty bad. I can get moving if I baby the throttle...but anytime I gas it in soft snow all it wants to do is trench. Instead of sending me forward all I do is sink in and get stuck.

So what have you guys done on the stock skid to get this thing to climb up on the powder?

What have you tried so far? I started with my limiter straps full out and also thought it trenched pretty bad. Was going to pull them in and try that.

Rode mine first in bottomless pow - stuck city. Second ride there was a nice base with 2-3 feet of fresh and no problems with trenching at all. I haven't touched mine but I have found that learning the throttle on this thing is absolutely key. Went through the deep last weekend with no problems at all. I'm probably 210 fully geared up if that matters.....

Rky, I am there with you on body mass as well. Were are your shocks and straps set, as the tech who set up my sled admitted that as it was a new model year he had no clue as how to set it up.
Thanks

i started with straps out and the shock as stiff as it would go and it trenched like a backhoe. the last trip out I put the straps at halfway and the shock as soft as it would go and it did better but still trenched pretty bad. The next trip out will be with the straps all the way up...hopefully that will work.

I'm about 220 all geared up...need to get the apex stiff springs for it.

Sucking the strap up all the way will just give it a ton of ski presure try adjusting the transfer slide nuts up as far as you can and make it couple as soon as you can. the suspension is just to soft in the rear and this will cause it to pull up the front arm with the rear arm and help with trenching.

I haven't had any trenching issues at all, it seems to put around in the deep snow really well, even at low speeds. Like mentioned above, throttle modulation is key. Don't use it like an on/off switch and it will do alot better.

I have the transfer rods as stiff as they'll go, limiters all the way out, and had the torsion springs on the stiffest setting(now have Apex fat springs on the softest), the track shock is on the second softest. Still have my susp. in the bottom hole.

Heading out to the ride 3' of fresh bone dry champagne powder this morning. Will report tonight. Plan on testing settings and continueing the break in. Thanks for the help so far.......

Limiter straps short as they would go, rear shock spring as soft as it would go, rear torsion spring full stiff. Pops right up on top of the powder like a cork, no trenching, still transfers well and handles like an absolute dream. Hope my humble opionion helps! Have a nice day.

Last night I set mine up just like stlhead did and tonight we played around in some set up snow which I had no problems with. Tomorrow I'm headed back up to the steep n deep so we'll see how it does. I can ride all day in bottomless powder if I only use 1/8 to 1/4 throttle....that part I love. I just want to be able to climb instead of digging a 5 foot hole when I line up and put the hammer down.

So far the straps are as tight as they'll go, front shock on softest setting, springs on hard, and transfer rods up to the red line. I haven't went to the top hole yet on the drop bracket. How it does tomorrow will determine if that happens. I might swap the track around at the same time if I end up moving the suspension up.

Thanks for the help!

Like Nikolai & Motojunkie said, don't use the throttle like an on/off switch. Just 1/8 to 1/4 throttle and it wil get on top of the powder way better.

Watch this video, http://youtube.com/watch?v=TtVSrzM2pw0

on the 2nd turn I dove too deep and started to get stuck, but I just feather the throttle and the sled keep's movoving forward. It's just one of the things you have to get used to on a 4 stroke I guess.

today was night and day better than the first trip out in the powder. Everywhere I pointed it I went no problem. The only time I got stuck was when I stopped in deeeeeep (5+ feet) powder facing uphill.

Thanks for the help...I'm now 90% happy with my sled. as soon as I swap the track around and put some apex springs under it this sled will be a dream come true:D

hey guys been following your postings from up here in the yukon canada and wanted you to know that i was having the same trenching problems till i did the improvments that you have come up. Went out today 5 feet of powder, completly different machine. Pops up on top right now, problem solved. thanks, lets keep it up

I'll be curious to hear what you think about the trenching once you've switched the track around since the paddle design is supposed to fold over to provide flotation...not that I believe that.

Once we get a nice day I'm going to make these suspension adjustments too and try her out. So far stock setup has been fine for me but I'm not very discriminating (yet).
