stock nytro piston failure.

I am putting together a nytro motor as my last motor failed a valve or my JE piston was hard to determine as the piston was in such small pieces but one half was in tact and one valve was sitting in oil pan as well. But besides that I am putting together my new motor and was wondering at what boost level will the stock piston commonly fail? I run mainly 15-17 lbs boost and the odd drag race at 20-22 lbs. I am building this motor with carrillo rods(as they survived my last failure very well) stock pistons with .060 head shim and one gasket split in half with studs. any input will help and right now the CP pistons dont fit my budget.
Thanks in advance Jamie

I have run stock pistons to 26lbs. On Propane. So with the proper fuel to support the boost you will be fine. IMO the only people who tell you you need rods and pistons are the guys selling them :(
Currently run 17-19lbs on stock Nytro Pistons for almost 20,000k :)
So you will be fine........most internal component failures are either aftermarket rods or pistons ;) The OEM stuff is stout at that level.

Cheers

I run carillo rods in my nytro but I have stuck with the OEM pistons because they work great.

15-18 psi with 91 octane @10 to 12000 ft.

Detonation is your enemy not the stock piston

Have run gas ported stock pistons for two seasons at 21psi day in an day out on straight 100LL AV never had an issue. Powderlites told me they've run over 30 psi on stock pistons in drag race applications. Factory pistons are quality forged pieces. Only heard of JE pistons and factory rods failing. Rods were due to too high of boost for quality of fuel.
