Stock Nytro, Happy?

So the people without the big money for boost and are running the nytro stock are you happy? I know it's not a big highmarker but is it a fun sled? How does it handle compared to the other sleds. Hopefully nobody says like a REV cause I don't like the way they handle. I'd really like to demo one this winter so I can ride before I buy. I don't want to make a $9,000+ dollar mistake and have to ride something I don't like. How bout the mpg situation? What is everybody seeing? any input would be helpful.

mine has about 250km+ on it now & better mpg than a rev & handles alot like a rev....... maybe better. you want a great handling sled? then this is it!!!! I've done the CR tunnel & 162 track & i think it'll hold it's own along side the "8's". won't highmark all day, but might give them a run for their money. It has the potential for sooooo much more than the others too.

So far I really like mine and it will go where I need....slow but it gets you there. I did a 162 16 mav and think it works well. Very well balance chassis and butter smooth power. It wont climb with a 800 rev for sure but will boondock with em no prob. My plan was to boost from the start but still waiting....go for it.

Got about 240 miles as of today:D I have planned from the beginning is to not to do boost. It has quite a bit of power, enough for me right now, and is a really a good sled. Where I need to go it is more of rider skill, line selection than if you sled is a full on mod or not. Keeps up with all the sleds in riding and gets stuck just as much (rider skill).

I wanted a fourstroke and so far I am really happy. It just needs a better suspension/shocks if you want to jump big (all sleds, imo) and storage on the tunnel. I would think these days that with all the safety gear that it would be mandatory to have a tunnel bag. The exhaust should exit somewhere else than on the tunnel, kind of a hurdle to cross with the location/configuration of the motor.

The sled fits me and I really like it. Hope some of this helps.

We did a drag race yesterday with the RTX,the short track, fitted with a two inch track, against a race chassis REV with a stock 800 motor, equal performance,,,,very impressed.Stunned the owner of the REV.

heres my review for you.

two mtx's, one blue with stock mtx skis, apex rear springs no other mods (mine), one anniversary model (wife's) all stock but slydog powderhounds riding at 8-10000 this week at togwotee wyoming.

mine, nasty darting on the trail to the play areas, played with limiters, front shock on rear skid, front ski springs, ski alignment ect... made it alittle better but not stellar. works well off trail, wont win any high mark prizes but goes almost everywhere the summits (rev and XP's) were going. smooth power, quiet, no vibration through bars, decent fuel economy (same riding, about 1/2 gallon less than the 800 xp summits), fun sled to ride after getting used to the rider forward and what the sled likes and doesnt like.

wife's needed alot more ski pressure with the powderhounds, had a big understeer issue, wouldnt turn hardly at all in powder with skis alone, (if you were carving and counter steering it was ok). made rear skid adjustments and the sled started behaving better. her bars heated alittle better than mine, no wet foot issues with either, i think the wet foot thing is caused from the skis spraying the bottom of the boards, and the clutch side spinning it up to the boot area (just my observation).

her sled reved faster and higher than mine (87-8900 on trail), mine would only get 86-8700 max on trail. both need more break in time but, i cant do a whole lot with the clutching due to the fact the weights are empty and the primary spring is yamaha's stiffest so, i am hoping i get my rpms when it fully breaks in or i'll be looking at stiffer aftermarket (dalton) primary springs to help with the revs.

what i was hoping for is 88-9000 on the trail and then when under load at the steep n deep the 85-8700 for the powerband. mine drops to 81-8200 max under load in the deep stuff. feels sluggish and slow to rev. the motor almost feels like the sled is being held back and could be stellar if opened up some how.

running boards clean off well with a few rubs from the boots, decent riding postion and ergos. decent wind protection with the yamaha mid height accy windscreens. hand guards help the bars heat better i think.

downs, the gauge pack, hard to read especially the tach when trying to dial sleds in, no clock like apexs, no altimeter like the xp's (both nice features that riders want/need), hand controls are touchy, and need attention all the time. would be better for individual thumb, grip controls like the apex.

the front shocks are too soft for hits and need alot of compression help (stiffer), the rebound up front seems ok. the rear shocks need ALOT of help (but are non rebuildable and non adjustable), more compression is needed, and alot less rebound. they seem to rebound way too fast but, bottom on the smallest bumps and dips.

not sure on the track yet, paddles seem soft and bend over and hold their bend in the cold hampering performance for sure, but with my motor and clutching rev issues, i am not sure what is holding the sled back more for climbing and deep powder, the motor or the track.

i am overal happy with the two sleds, but hoping as a group, we can address these and the other issues some are having amungst ourselves to make the sled stellar. ski

Thanks for the reply's. Thinking I'm gonna have to ride a demo to form an opinion on if I would buy one or not.

I love mine. Bought a phazer and a nitro. It goes everywhere I want to go and more. Handles great, starts great, reverse works great, basicly everything works great. Mpg, is better than the phazer, about 10-11 mpg in powder and a little trail to get to the powder.

Skidooboyedk,
Thanks for the review, I love to ride in deep snow and am considering a Nytro, I know its fixable but it sounds like the rear skid (at least the shocks) wouldn't work to well for a guy my size 6'5" 240. I rode one for a couple of minutes at Arcticman last year and it worked pretty good, good low end torque but there wasn't any good snow to try it out on a climb or powder riding.

I really like the ergo of the thing, but don't want to buy a sled and drop another 2500 to make it right. My wife is sure it will be that much a year LOL, based on previous experience.

Would the Apex be a better sled for someone my size or do you think after the Nytro is dialed in it will work?

Maybe I need to go riding with Nikolai at Petersville and see how it goes, I am definitely on the fence, hard to give up that old 2 stroke that has been so pull and go reliable for so many years.

I know that they haven't been out very long but I rode one this weekend and I think they are going to be like a typical yamaha, pretty much bullet proof or maybe even bomb proof. On rating scale from one to five and one being the lowest I would have to say that out of the box performance for a 130 hp sled I would rate it at a 4. Front end I found nothing wrong with other than a typical mountain sled the skis are built for deep powder riding not the trail, so I will give it a 4. Rear suspension needs some work because it still has transfer issues trying to get the track to the ground.I will rate it as a 3.5. All in all I was impressed with the overall performance, lowend torque, handling, and ergonomics of this machine so I will rate the whole thing as a 4. Hope this will help out I know I will be bying one.
