stock exhaust question???

Is it necessary to leave the stock exhaust heat shield and insulation on the pipe? I have found that it traps moisture and promotes rusting of the pipe. I have removed it to sandblast and paint the pipe but don't really want to put it back on. The aftermarkets dont use them. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

pipe

i think you will have heat problems if you dont put it back on or ceramic coat it most after market pipes are ceramic coated

heat

you can try it just check it after you ride it make sure your not melting things under the hood after a hard ride

I would get it ceramic coated. I have a CPI that isn't coated and it melted the fender on a deep powder day when the front hood vents got plugged with snow.
I had to take it off and put the stock pipe back on. I am having the pipe and the Y-pipe coated before it goes back on. Heat tape on everything near the pipe is a good idea too.
