Stock Apex oil question

I just picked up my first Yammie and 4 stroke sled. I am changing the oil and had two questions.

1. I bought some Amsoil full synthetic 0w-40, is that ok to run on this stock machine with 1,400 miles?

2. I read the owners manual and it looks like you re-fill the sled by just dumpping the oil into the resovior, is that the case?
