Stiffer skid spring on a '08-M1000?

Been reading a lot about these skids and how weak the front skid springs are in them. I just had all my shocks revalved by Andy and I know Holz has a spring-stack you can buy to help, but what about just putting in a stiffer spring? When I was a 900RMK guy, one of the best mods you could do to the sled was to get a 225lb. spring to replace the stock spring with. This seemed to REALLY help make the sled feel lighter in the front end and help with transfer. Well, I found a 170lb spring off of a F series I was thinking about trying on my 1000. Part number is #0704-936. Anyone experiment with any stiffer springs? BTW......I am about 210 geared up when I ride. Thanks!

I went the Holz route. Still waiting for snow to evaluate. My other thought was to check the spring rates on other AC sleds, HCR, Crossfire, or M7 like you have done with the F. You might find a spring worth trying that way.

You might pm Geo and see if he will respond to this thread. He would definately have an opinion on this. I cranked mine up and I think it transfers fine with the "Geo mod"

Seems like in the past with my M7 and 900RMK, I have had the best luck with transfer if the front is stiff and the back is soft for kind of a pivot action on that front shock/spring. Everyone complains about it being way to soft on this M1000. I'm surprised nobody has tried this before.

not a bad idea, but somewhat counteractive as a stiffer front track shock/spring may only make you trench more in the softer snow. The root of the problem is the internal valving not being very progessive so you end up with something that is either too soft or too hard no matter how you try to adjust it.
We change the internals and put a dual spring stack on the front track shock. This will directly address and improve the ride of the rear suspension and make it transfer better. Also you will regain a broader adjustability range in both shocks. With the front track shock valved and sprung correctly it will help with the ski pressure problem that some complain about and help keep the skid from trenching.

Along w/ the better spring pack and valving how about a bit longer center shock?

My 08 m8 sp has kinda the same "too soft" issue. Rear shock is crancked up to 135 psi and when I sit on it she drops down. With no weight it sags. Shocks should be ok yet only 900 miles. Kinda kickin around the idea of going to a float front shock in the rear skid. Kind of fool proof. Any ideas?

I like what Holz and ulost are saying, but I really think the spring would really benefit in two ways. #1 I feel like the spring would really help the heavy front-end feel of the M1000 and #2 I think it would really help with the support of the backend not sagging. As far as the stiffer spring making it trench more, I respectfully disagree. It has always helped on past skids in deep powder. The only thing I would wonder about is if it would put more stress on the skid structure. The spring stack would I believe really help the ride, but it would not make the front-end feel lighter like the stiffer spring will.

I'm goint to try that same spring 0704-936 too. 09 CF8SP has the same wuss spring, stock.
Slams hard on rough stuff.

If this doesn't do it, I may look into a float too. Or maybe a zero-pro off a Firecat.
