Stevens Pass Second Season

not a fan of that Idea.. tuesday the 17th is my annual b-day pilgrimage to stevens..

Not good

Wonder about the legality? FS lease ends mid April. How can they extend the season unless given an extension.

I suppose money talks and they will get a payment to extend. Sledders will get screwed out of being there while skiers are allowed.

^Seriously dude? It's a ski area. Sledders aren't getting screwed out of anything.

No need to wonder about legality of this move from Stevens.

I honestly don't think there is an actually lease agreement that mandates any sort of April closure or a lease that is only good until April. I think the closure of stevens in April is a management decision.

IMO, the courteous thing to do is not shred the back of Stevens via sled until the mtn is closed for the season. I think that is also in the best interest of the zone as a sledding area as well.

Traditionally Stevens backside has opened to sleds a specific date every year. I believe Snowlover is right, there's some sort of lease on the backside only. I got that date locked in, but I'm keeping it to myself so I can snake all Kartorium's lines.

My curiosity is really around Tye Mill chair though, cause that Stevens press release say they might be running it. That's a heavy sled traffic zone.

Not sure, you may be right Tom. That might be part of the reason they are likely to limit the operations to hogs, sky, and 7th. I suppose there could be an agreement for the backside only. We need the birdy from the inside to get more info ;)

Still looks like they will only be open for the weekends after the 17th so really no prob for us weekday riders.

have a email in

i just fired off a email to my inside contact at Stevens, i will let you know what he has to say. should be a good contact as he is the "bossman" of stevens:face-icon-small-hap. stay tuned!

from the horses mouth

here is the info from the insider at Steven's:
Hi Kevin –

Snowmobiles are not allowed on the backside until after April 16, which is when our Nordic Center closes. Snowmobiles are not allowed on the front side of the resort at any time. Since we will be operating the resort weekends (front side only) through April, there will be posted boundaries where it is closed to snowmobiles.

We have had a great season. Hope your femur is healing well. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Take care

hope this helps everyone!

Lots of risk to us!

Surely there will be a lot of skiers, in that they only have to skin back up the backside and ample opportunities for sleds to be on the same hills as skiers.

PLEASE be courteous, it will only take one slight accident to ruin this for everyone. Not to mention the anti sled headlines that will be on all news channels and papers for weeks and cited for years.

I'm staying away on the weekends and unless there is a fresh mid week dump, can find better places to go.

This is kind of where my mind was going with the earlier post, however, I didn't convey it. It could be really easy to pass some extremely negative attention in that area, especially this season. Stay safe and mindful of the other users.

Hopefully I can get my sled back together and do some riding up there with you guys a bit later in the year.

new update as of 4/3/2012

guys im sorry i just got another email from my insider about the hill so here it is:
Hi Kevin –

I was just reminded that our Nordic Center will remain open through April 22 so snowmobiles will not be allowed until after that, starting on Monday, April 23. Sorry for the confusion.

hope this is better help to you all!

Can you make it from Yodlien over to the backside? I've never unloaded at Yodlien. Waiting till 23rd could miss the window.

dont know where Yodlien is but you cannot ride anywhere on the mountain till the 23rd when the whole mountain is closed. where is Yodlien?

Yodelin is a major bc skiing spot for newbs. Terrible place to ride a sled, for all the obvious reasons. Why not just go ride someplace new/better?

has anyone ever rode this area? whats it like? good? bad? just was looking at some photos and looks real fun!

Good. Snow
Bad. Very small and when open, it will be hard spring snow.

I had a fun time with 2 newbies on 5/16 and would do it again for a late spring ride, but not go out of my way for a day of riding.

Glad I have been there and fun to rip up the ski runs, but quite limited in my experience.

Couch burning/partying aside, riding is just OK.

you can cover the whole backside via sled in about 20 minutes.. its not really that fun for sledding.. its actually boring.. BUT.. for TomMTX, myself and a whole slew of other snow sliding bros its easy to build jumps or get those late spring powder rides in.. its an easy tandem up for long runs down.. and since its a CLOSED ski resort there is no longer the battle for untracked powder runs and lift lines...

this is what we do when it closes.. :face-icon-small-coo :crutch:

Yea, I've called in sick from up there a couple times! If your boss hears the sleds, just claim a “mental health” day... they generally stay a way from you for a while too? :face-icon-small-con
