Steering Post / Airbox Repairs

Not sure what to call it but its the horizontal bar that the steering post pivots on up near the top.

Its bent slightly, should I replace it or try and bend it back?

Also, the bracket that the bottom of the post which the post is bolted to is cracked along the weld line. Again, should it be replaced or is it not such a big deal? That bracket is pretty freakin solid.

Also anyone familiar with the Carb model know an easy way to get the airbox back on over the carbs? The bottom of the circular...pipes I supposed they are....doesnt go over the bottom of the opening of the carb. Is there a trick to it or something?

i believe the bar your talkin bout is the steering hoop, i would say bent it back for now and if it bends easyr next time if at all then you should replace it.

i take the with white shelf with the 2 black cones out and stick your hand inside and work them round, it still sucks but thats how i do it

check the braket often and if it gets worse then ya i would replace it

Thanks man, yeah 40 bucks for new bar and 10 for bracket I might just get a mate to try and re-weld it.

Also, I noticed that my steering post rubs/pushes up against the airbox when I turn to the.....right I believe. I have a CR forward mounting post (i think). Most of the other mods are CR so I am assuming its their post.

Does this mean its moved slightly or does it normally rub really close.

Yeah, Bootz has it right.

I'll add this ; When you reach into the airbox to slide the carb boots on with your right hand take you left hand and pull the carb away from the steering post to give you a bit more space. This is made easier when warmed up or with a lube spray.

Owen forgot to tell you to pop the air shelf out of the air box and throw it away, then reach down and fit the boots to the carb. They should have used inverted boots in the air box, my sandwich would have tasted better!

But of course

Ah, I get it, stick your hand inside the box. That would make it easier, thanks! Mine has a cold air mod done to the airbox so in place of the toolkit is an extra piece of that filter/mesh stuff. Its glued in place which is why I didnt think of that first time.
