SteamBoat Lake Area riding conditions

Planning to go to steamboat lake area end of the month but i'm not sure how long that area holds out. I was there 2 years ago, and stayed at dutch creek. The main area I want to go to is California Park.

Anyone have a guess at what the conditions will be like March 29th through April 3rd?

As of the weekend before last it was Epic. But who knows what the warmer weather and sun have done to the snow. We are under a Storm warning but I spent most of the day outside in a t-shirt and watching the sun move across the sky.

Snow isn't the best. It's hero snow. Found some decent fluff back in the areas where most people don't know about but I wouldn't have driven 12 hours if I'd known the snow was like this.

Suppose to be 48* and rain tomorrow afternoon at SLO. We'll see what happens.

forecast does not look good was planning on coming out on the 20th but weather can change in a minute out there

Just left about 5 hours ago. They got about 1' of fresh on the mountain last night. Sun came out and shrunk it back down again though. It's all really sticky snow and you could get anywhere with a 500 121". Probably not worth it to drive from Iowa. But thats up to you.

Conditions couldn't have been much better

I rode the Steamboat Lake area last weekend and the conditions were outstanding. By the looks of this roof we were on a good bit of base.

I guess it depends on what 'outstanding' means to you.

If outstanding means being able to go where ever you want without getting stuck, then yes the conditions were outstanding.

However, if outstanding means having to fight through waist deep fluff and having to work to get where you want to go, then no the conditions were not outstanding.

And I sure hope there would be a good base my the middle of March.

Like I said, it's all hero snow. If you like that kind of snow, then go for it.
