Stator problems

I have a buddy that can't keep a stator in his 700 indy. Any ideas? It's getting a little pricey at 400.00 per, especially when they only last about 4 miles. Thanks

I would look at disconnecting all the electrical except the kill switch and see if it will live. If so then you know you have a short somewhere in the wiring. If it still dies then maybe the CDI is doing it. There is a guy in Utah that is rewinding them I believe. I see if I can find his info and post it for you.

Thanks for the info, I will pass it on. Sledders rock when you need a hand!:face-icon-small-hap

I burnt out the stator in my XLT back in the day. This was caused by the grips getting loose and allowing them to work the insulation off the grip heaters. The heaters ground out on the bar and took the stator out. The motor still ran, but the lighting coil that generates the auxilary power was toast. After that hassle and fix-it bill, the new grip heaters/grips looked cheap.
