stator problem

Hey Guys...
my buddy has a 2002 summit highmark.
the chip fell out of his antitheft button.
so he bought a new one and had it programmed. the sled hasn't run since.
the ski doo dealer says it's his stator and coil.
why would this happen right after it was programmed? or is it just
a coincidence?
they charged him $200.00 to diognose and they say it's a 4 hour job to
install new parts.
we think he's getting burnt.

Any help ,or ideas would be apprieciated...

thx...snoddy.

Did it run after the "chip fell out" or was is a no start situation?

The little star in the dess key is not the "chip" all that it does is profide pressure between the cap and post to provide a positive lock. The sled will still start and run if the star falles out, but it may not recognize the key and the sled may not rev over 3000.

If your buddies sled did not run when you took it to the dealer to get a new key programmed, chances are that him needing a new key was a secondary issue and the stator was bad then.

A no spark situation on an 02 being a stator does not suprise me, but 2 hour for diagnosis and 4 for an stator r & r is hiway robbery.
