I have to ask why on a polaris do you have to pull the starter rope all the way out for it to start? No big deal I just thought its weird it wont start on short pulls.

When warm my d8 starts fine on very short pulls. It'll fire up from pulling the rope not more than a foot from the point where it starts turning the motor over.

I'm not really sure of the technical answer, but I was told that the first pull primes and then the 2nd pull will fire the sled. So, once it is warm you only need one pull. As to why it requires a full pull, I can only guess that is required to "prime" it properly.

habbit.... what a stupid question. is there really people out there that consciously pull the rope only as far as they need or want to. i just harf on the sumbich and ride who cares how far you need to pull it as long as it starts

Hey I only asked cause I thought it was weird. Get off my M and hop onto my buddies dragon and damn! It dont start unless you pull the thing all the way out. And yeah I only pull the rope a short quick pull on my M when its warm. Why pull it more?

Why are the M tunnels so weak at the riveted extension? Why do they also use more fuel in the same conditions than Polaris cfi's and carbs? Why are the M skis as wide as Polaris trail skis?

That ones a little different, mine always starts with half a pull when warm and two pulls when cold, its like clock work every time.

Hmmm. Ok maybe just an odd deal.

Oh and Marv1. I wasn't bad mouthing Polaris, Just curious. Sorry your big ego was bent.

My 09 takes several pulls and they must be all the way out. What a pain. I think the pressure bleeds off. I was going to install a small battery with a switch on the pump and then prime it before starting. It would let me know if that was the problem. But I fixed the problem and snow checked a Pro 163

What was wrong with my post Mav1? I was only stating how my sled worked in compassison to his. In other words bringing across the idea that something was wrong, or abnormal with the way his sled starts. Are we not aloud to try and help anymore? I can take a bad rateing if there is reason for one. But lets not get kiddish.

My 08 Dragon has been the same way. I also noticed it compared to other M-8's. It was usually 2 long pulls at a minimum. I re-set the TPS with the home made tool as described in the "Increasing Your IQ" thread above and now it starts great.

I think setting the TPS correctly is a good place to start. Fixed mine. EW

Good point. Also, and I've proved this to many CFI owners, a misadjusted throttle cable will cause hard starting.

Ditto. Set the TPS correctly and then check the reeds too. If they are not sealing properly, it will tend to be harder starting.
