starter recoil?

Bought an 09 m1000 recently and the Recoil rope was missing pulled the housing off and it apppears it touched the pipe and broke. I have the new rope and handle how is the easiest/best way to put it back on while have the spring loaded? Thanks in advance

with the rope hanging out of the recoil (after you have pre load the spring with the new rope) I just put a knot in it at the base of the recoil so it can not retract back in. this will give you time to bolt it up without dealing with the rope. when done undo the knot and i put a tight wrap of black electrical tape on the end and thread it past all and out there i put an put one more not with about a foot of rope this give you time to work on the handle and the knot.
