Stanley weather and riding conditions?

Hello
Having been only to Stanley once, looking for some input. A group of three where thinking of going the 19 to Stanley, but after looking at the weather I almost think we should hold off going. We are not trail riders. With all the sun we are worring that much of the slopes will be hard, Fourth of July, Pole Creek which are south facing, but what about Vienna, are some of the slopes north facing and holding up?
Any riding reports?
We are coming from Bend and will ride for 5 to 7 days.

Thanks

I don't have a report for this area specifically, but I was east of Stanley the last two weekends. The snow was holding up well, but this could be shortlived with the warmer temps and no snow that is forcast for the next week. Another buddy rode Pole Creek last weekend and said that it was great. However, there has been no new snow since then. Unfortunatley, I think that the whole west is pretty much in the same boat.

If you were going up, I think that getting off of the beaten path would be the best bet. Since it looks like the deep powder may be hard to find, it may be a good time to explore and find new areas for future trips.

Sorry that I am not more help. If I hear more, I will let you know.

i was there saturday

south facing stuff on the lower elevations are THIN. riding was fun. be careful. check that sawtooth avy site. be prepared to cross some streams.

One Big Trip

My first trip to Stanley is planed for the last week of Feb. Hope the snow comes back before then. I had lots of great riding last year and my job has me out in Virginia so going to Stanley is going to be a haul, is it worth it.

Stanley is worth the trip!!! Not a lot of people and the views are great. Most of the time we go to McCall but needed a change, so Stanley this year.

Christmas in January

Hope the snow comes again like it did in Portland around Christmas time. I have made about six trips to McCall. I had heard Stanley was great too but got to have the snow.

Thanks
If you could get a post out friday night or saturday that would be great! As it looks right now we may hold off going.

I would hold off coming, we need some new snow and there's nothing in the forcast for the next 10 days.

I know my laptop is useless up there. Rick, I'll try calling if I have cell service.

You should have cell service in town, altough I don't think it last too long once you get out of town.

You can also see some webcams from Stanley and Smiley Creek by going to the ITD website and clicking on the Camera tab in the upper part of the page. As a note, the Smiley Creek Web cam has two views (altough it seems to be not working at the moment).

Storm Report

Long range looks like the next system is coming in about Thursday. Good thing we are flexable on dates.

Storm won't be here before next weekend, its gonna be a Saturday, Sunday deal. Thursday is just a few clouds, Friday is clear and sunny, then 65% chance of snow on Saturday and 95% chance on Sunday. :)

I know this to be true. I bet your wondering how I know this? Well for starters next week is the last week of our Idaho waterfowl season, in fact it ends Friday the 23rd, :( the day that's forcast to be bright and sunny. Second I looked it up on the Weather channel this morning, and believe me the way this year has been for duck hunting, it will not snow untill after Friday. :D:D

Hello
Have been watching Accuweather online but I think they are using the dart board for forecasts. Yesterday it showed snow from the 22 to 29 Today it shows sun for the same time. Until I see some new snow at the Vienna Mine snotel site we are staying home.

Good decision!:beer;:beer;

Rick, sorry I couldn't get to a phone to call. We were in the Cabin Creek area and had a great time. However, the snow is really thin and there were lots of rocks to dodge and bounce off of. We didn't break anything (unless you count both tow vehicles). The sledding was fun, the kids tubed down some amazingly long mountain-sides and we still have a Powerstroke in the shop, but the Cummins is running again.

Although it was a great time, I would definitely wait for some fresh.

Glad you had fun.

Sounds like they are expecting a chance of snow starting on Thursday, but it does not look like much yet. I guess that we need to keep our fingers crossed.

Check out the comments I made about Smiley Creek Lodge on the main section. These guys were FANTASTIC!!! I'll be dropping some $$ there every trip to Stanley and I encourage others to do the same.

Anchorman
How was the coverage up at the last lake of Forth of July creek and Vinnea Mine? Last time I was there, up the valleys was a lot better than down on the flat.
Yes Smiley Creek is great! a must stop.
Looks like we are leaving Sunday for a couple of days riding McCall and then on to Stanley.
Riding here in Bend is just ICE!

Rick, because we had all the kids we didn't get to venture too far out. In talking with the groomer operator though, I think I'd wait for a big trip out here until a fresh batch of pow. The weather was absolutely fantastic though and the night sky was unbelievable!
