Stacking reed pedals

I remember reading on posts last year that guys were stacking there reed pedals on there boosted cats for durability. Is this necessary at 12lbs boost? And if so, will the factory reed pedals off a 2009 m8 match up with the factory reed pedals on a 2010 m8?

I don't know if its necessary. All a know if after 400 miles mine stock reeds started to crack so i got TDR reeds from mountain magic and cut my stock ones and stacked them behind the tdr. I now have 1200 miles and no problems and i was running 10 to 14 lbs of boost

any boost is tough on reeds and the higher you go, the more prone to failure.
stack m1000 reeds on your stockers , and that will usually last you a while.
worked well for me, i was blowing out the stock reeds pretty regular at 10 lbs

why does everyone say they cut their stock reeds? i just stacked 2 sets of stock m8 reeds togther but i couldent see any need to cut anything?

Yeah I will have to do something to keep as much reliability as possible. I do have a set of stock m1000 reeds so maybe that's what ill do. Anybody know if the reeds off the 07 to 09 Ms will work on the 010? Also bell, do you remember what those TDR reeds were worth?

They were about 100 bucks with shipping. I cut them so it doesn't slow my throttle response anymore. but still gives you more support when your in and out of throttle. since on boost you have some lag already

yeah i would like to know this as well as i just stacked them with now cutting as well but i have not rode it yet. Is there a problem in doing it this way.

where do you cut them?

Yeah I would also like to know what you guys mean by cutting them. It makes sense what bell is saying about cutting the reed so don't lose so much throttle response but stil gain some strength. If sombody could fill me in exactly where to cut them that would be great. A pic would be even better. Thanks

Has anyone tried the Boyesen turbo reeds ? I was on their web site and it says they have reeds for the turbo sleds, no info listed though, it just said to call them.

I've ordered complete m1000 reeds, and was told this was bolt on my M8? Is it the same bolt pattern on the flange against the motor on M8 and M1000?

Yes the m1000 reeds work on the M8 cage and they are cheaper :-).

Good to see that Boyesen is listing their turbo setup. I got a set from them at end of season to try out but they didn't get them out before we lost all snow. Nice looking setup with complete rad valve assembly. Uses dual stage with fiberglass first stage and carbon fiber second stage. The carbon ones are much thicker than what v-force uses and look like they will stand up better than glass ones. BTW the TDR reeds are no better (not saying they are worse either) than stock M1000 reeds. Stacking old chipped ones on top of new does work though. Using 1000 reeds on M8 works great and is something I do on all M8 turbos I install. So far no failures of those on an M8 on the ones we did here.

When you say using m1000 reeds, do you use the complete reed assembly for an m1000 on the m8, or only the fiberglass parts?
Pictures...

Are the bolts still long enough when stacking reeds or do you have to use longer bolts? Do you guys use lock-tite and, if so, red or blue?
