Stabbed Track - Thx Tek Vest and Hope This Does Not Happen to You

I was out breaking in the motor rebuild on my '05 M7 yesterday. I was just hopping a small hill, thankfully not going too fast, when this happened:

I went flying into my handlebars, hit them so hard that they bent all the way over to the dash, then flew through the windshield.
I had my Tek Vest on and DID NOT FEEL A THING!!

Just thought I would share.

Does anyone know why this stabbing occurs? Is it a freak event? I do run my track a bit loose (most m7 owners do) but never thought
this would happen. Is there an anti-stab kit of some type? (thought I saw a post long ago . . .)

I wish I had taken pics of the handlebar but I was so pee-O'd (thinking my engine had blown) that I never thought of it.

Just ordered a Power Claw . . . :-)

Regards,

anti stab kit needed for sure,

every time i have seen this happen some one has hit something under the snow dead center between the rails and allowed them to catch, anti stab is a couple small bogies across the front of the rails,:beer;

That sucks

Sorrry about your sh--ty luck dude. At least you didn't get hurt. Had a buddy stab his track about 20K back from the Frisby cabin at Revy last year. He had hit a small stump going down hill at fairly slow speed and that was enough to do it. The only way we knew what caused it was the wood chunks stuck in the track. The sled stopped dead and he did a superman landing about 20 ft in front of it. Luckily he was not hurt either. He thought that having his limiter straps set to loose might have contributed to the ordeal. We ended up changing the track out on the mountain. It was either that or a Heli ride...

anti stab kit

SLP makes a anti-stab kit. Have a friend that made his own out of a old aluminum cross shaft and two skate board wheels. Sorry I dont have any pics.

When you put on the SLP kit - remove the front black plastic caps and use those holes for the new mounts. That way the wheels are as far forward as possible with no chance of catching the track.

sounds about right

Yes, Hilinerider and Ricardo,
I was actually jumping a small hill of relatively hard snow that had a bit of a peak to it. Sounds very similar to your experiences.

I actually had a set of small bogey wheels up front before to minimize slider wear but they broke on me! should have replaced them . . .

the ones I had before (from Hi Performance Engineering)were POS. Hopefully the SLP's are better quality.

I think this one was totally avoidable. Look at the wear on your hyfax. The screws holding them on are worn badly. The hyfax at the point of the wheel are almost to the rail. Good hyfaxs and proper adjustment would have avoided this. Just my opinion.:beer;

the wear

Jmac,
I had just "flipped" the hi fax. They tend to wear more at a point right by the bend/bogie wheel so I flip them end to end. If you look closely the "worn" portion you are seeing are actually in the end caps which I admit to not checking before hand. I am not sure if that would have been the cause but it could have been.

I am pretty careful to check hi fax becasue I actually had to replace the rails on this in its second year. The wear point by the bogie wheel is hard to see if you don't look for it and I had acutally eaten into the rails at that point. It was an expensive fix and I learned my lesson. I even installed a set of inner boggie wheels (although not as good as the SLP anti stab) but they were POS and lasted half a year. I am most definitly going to replace the end caps and watch them now . . .

I never had any of these problems on my previous sleds (800 mtn cat, 600 powder special, Indy 500). This '05 M seems to not like hi fax/rails/tracks LOL!!

Thx.

I also had a buddy do this on an 05 M7. Luckily he was only going about 5 mph and we tipped it on its side and spun the track backwards to get it off the rail. It didnt rip or anything so we tightened up the limiter straps and rode the s&*$ out if it for the next four days with no problems. He got really lucky. This may be a dumb thing to say, and i really have no idea, but would having a 3" pitch make this more likely to happen since there is a bigger hole to slip over the rail?

Wahl Bros makes them slp does to 2 or 4 wheels and a tube 60-90$ I saw a guy stab his track on a turbo yam blew suspension clean outa sled. the track slacks up and the window catches the rail tip. If you need a pic I will take one on my Apex:eek: sory man glad you are ok

Don,t bother replacing the rail tips as was said just install the anti stab kit in there place, and yes the bigger hole for the 3" pitch is one of the causes, after seeing many post about this I put the anti stab kit on my nytro, and it was money well spent.
