St helens closure update

Has anyone gone up there in the past few days? If so what way did you go and how was it? Going to try and head up there tomorrow.

Thanks

I e-mailed the washington snoparks and this is what they had to say, which is basically what we already knew...

"Thank you for contacting the Winter Recreation Program. As of today, there is no likelihood that Marble Mountain, Cougar and Ape Cave Sno-Parks will reopen for the remainder of the season. Snow removal dollars have been exhausted for this area. The only chance for these Sno-Parks to reopen is for local community groups--businesses, winter recreation clubs, US Forest Service, etc--is to raise money or donate services."

I was planning a family vacation down there this weekend but it doesn't sounds good now... :( I would be curious if anyone knew differently...

just got an e-mail that said marble moutain snopark was accessible by snowmobile only but no reference as to if they were grooming it or what...

I wouldn't do a family trip, not very much parking at all. i'd suggest going to Flattop snopark at Mt Adams, it's one of the few snoparks still open.
-another option is, go up the road 81 that goes to merril lake (out of Cougar) and ride in thru the horse camp as said before^^ and there is no grooming anywhere at helens

heres the link to the Forest service website-VVV

hopefully next season they will get their spit together and be ready for heavy snowfall...

I thought the 81 road was washed out above the horse camp? is it passable?

How about the road out to and past Marble Mt Park (8300) to the lahar, rideable via sled lately? Many trees/slides in the way?

If it were just me and the girl friend we'd come down there and tear it up but from the uncertainess of things I think will go else where.

Anybody been up the 90 to the 25 rd? Or to Eagle Cliff store or beyond? If you can get to the 25 it's a pretty good road ride over to Wakepish with some good playgrounds on the sideroads. Back in 96/97 when Lone Butte was closed we used to go up the 90 and park at the bottom of Curly Creek rd. or the 3211 up higher.

Greenwater conditions

I called the Enumclaw Forest Circus....They said it is still closed at the bottom of the hill, 4 miles in. They are out of money for plowing. I asked about grooming and she didnt know....

Went for a drive Thurday night to check out roads and here's what we found. FS 90 bare pavement 2 lanes wide to the 83 which is barricaded with a little parking room and lots of sled tracks going around the barricade. 90 still 2 lanes and bare to the 25 turn off at past pine creek ranger station. The 25 is plowed and bare 1 lane for about 2 miles to what looks like a private home access then a pushed up snow berm with no sled tracks. If you worked at it you could turn around and park 2 rigs with decks or little trailers. Going on up the 90 it's plowed and bare 1+ lane to Eagle Cliff store, then it's still plowed but has a road closed sign and barricade. What's up with that? If they're working on plowing it up to Lone Butte I can see why they wouldn't want a bunch of rigs plugging up the diches and getting in the way of the plows. If not then why couldn't we be driving on up, making a wide spot to park and riding from there?

Marble snow park

Though the 83 road wont be plowed for the rest of the year, they are going to groom it from the 90 all the way out. He's going to try running through the creek at the washout just past the Marble snow park to get rid of the nasty moguls on the way out to Lahar. Parking at the 83/90 intersection sucks though. Stay tuned for updates.
