srx and mountain max knowledge needed

Yes but you want 01 or newer driveshaft, much stronger
You can tell by the speedo end
It has a small 90 degree cut in the shaft end instead of a small taper

This is a must! I snapped 2 on my '99 before going to an '01 shaft. No problems since

I've always been told that, but ran thousands of miles on a '00 and had a new '01 shaft with me at all times and never had a problem. (Ekholm D&R tunnel with 9T extroverts)

yup. one of my riding buddies has the stock one in a 97 mm. me on the other hand, i've broken both kinds. i check mine regularly now for cracks and bends.

It's actually not a weak shaft, the suspension tensions the track when it travels, if you have extro's and have some hanging slack you probably would never break one

Have you ever had a problem where the track is hitting the rail end caps mashing them to the point the end cap comes off and the track spears?

I have had this happen twice on my 2000 mm700 with 8tooth extroverts.

Thinking of going back to stock drivers

This last stab was bad,,,,track was torn, driveshaft bent, etc

No issues with the stock shaft and 8 tooth extros. I run the tracks loose with limiters all the way out.
Bu loose I use the golf ball method. I loosen the track, place a golf ball under the middle of each rail and snug up the track. It's not rocket science but it keeps tension consistant.
