Spot locator ...........special!!

It has been brought to my attention that Cabela's is currently running a promotion on SPOT locators.

The deal is:
Buy a SPOT for $150.00, sign up for a 2 year membership and receive a mail-in coupon for $150.00 to cover the price of the SPOT.

In my opinion the SPOT is an excellent, useful, piece of hardware that can be utilized by all BC users.

This deal saves you $150.00! Not bad for this economy.

Thought I'd pass it along to my snowmobile community.

How do you mean what have you used it for?

I have one that I keep in track mode, and have a groups of riders on there to text if sh** hits the fan. Can't see using the 911 mode, but it's probably nice to have.

I guess that depends on how big of a pile hits the fan eh :D

I'm thinking about picking one up friday when I go by Cabela's on my way home. I'm going on a hunting trip in a wilderness area almost completely solo. If I hurt myself somehow out there i'd be Fawked big time.

Hey, if you have any problems in the wilderness area let me know, I'll go borrow a quad & come help:eek:

I used mine a bunch last winter, then did a few kind of out there trips this summer & I realized that I really should be bringing it along this time of year as well.

One cool thing about the track feature, it lets whoever rescues you see just how much time you spent in the wilderness areas that day:p

It'd have to be a pretty big pile to call 911, cause the 1st line of defense (S&R) doens't give me too much confidence! Unless you're stupid enough to, say, seperate from your group in a flat area & then get lost & run out of fuel... (goodness gracious, we know I'd never do ANYTHING like THAT) Well, ok, in that instance I guess they might be helpful!

I was referring to the tracking package. Were you able to use later to gather info as to where you had been. I am looking at the tracking feature more from a hunting stand point. Sorry for your confusion there.

The tracking works relatively well, it doesn't send a signal on every send point but it'll definately show you where you were in general. If you have tried to do the same with a GPS, it's like the kind of signal you'd see if you had a gps in your pocket, kind of in & out.

If you JUST want the tracking feature, you're better off getting a good GPS.

You'd be better served for that particular aspect to buy a good GPS unint and then use a program like "load my tracks" to interface with google earth. The track logs on the newer GPS's will hold many days worth of hunting tracks. Snowmobiling you can hold a bunch of too but there's more area covered there so not as many as you would with a hunting trip.

But I'm kinda liking the idea of setting up an email to Ralph to come help me pack out an Elk with the "I'm OK" message. :p

Spot is running the rebate, again. They had the samething, that ended last month.

They must be trying to make room for the new style coming out
