WOW! I worked at the idaho falls store in 07. The mgr. at that time said they had 62 stores & had plans of having 100 by the end of the decade. Good to see our shop's not on either list.

So sad, glad the Grand Junction store isn't on there. Figured the one in Aurora would holds it own. Guess Bass Pro and Cabelas killed them.

It baffles me that they don't have an online store. Or at least they didn't--maybe now?

No Chit!! I prefer Sportsman's Warehouse (used to work across the street from them) and still buy stuff in person. BUT, I have bought a lot more stuff from Cabella's online even though they're only 15 mins aways.

If your business does not offer online options...you will fail

My brother worked there for awhile and he pointed out some absurdities. Run out of a product and just move mismatched stuff to the slot so it doesn't look empty. Also why in Sioux Falls SD do you need 3 whole isles to Trout, Muskee & Bass gear that don't sell here and they can't keep enough walleye gear on the shelves?

Friend works there and said the purchasing practices change to a central location a few years ago, and things went to pot. In the past store owers had more control over what was carried on the shelves. They were able to customized to their location. Now there's boat-loads of Whitetail hunting and Bass lures in our Colorado store, and it just sits. Can't make money unless you give the customer what they want ...

Interesting. I figured the way people are buying up guns and ammo a chain like Sportsman Warehouse would be doing well right now. Just shows that we haven't seen anything yet.

I think they were struggling last summer. Tough to sell ammo if you don't pay your bills to the distributors.

Never did like the service i got there.

^^^X2^^^

the one here in idaho falls was terrible for service and they don't open until late morning.

EA-

did you see the latest edition of River City Weekly? sportsmen's is on the cover stating that they keep any guns/ammo on the shelves. i also see that ski's has been open the last few times i've drove by.

Agreed spent many times on hold trying to find out if they had something because the drive was 35 miles only to find out a few things they didn't have after the drive and getting it online somewhere was the only option :(

Been hearing a rumor that the one here in Billings was going to close as soon as Cabellas opens. I haven't had good service at this store since they opened either.

Did you mean to say that they DON'T keep any ammo on the floor? Hell, it was all out on the floor when I worked there. & of course all the firearms are behind the counters & in the gun room....they have a HUGE backstock of guns there. I was told they were selling about 25 handguns a week alone. As far as Skis goes, I dunno anything about him being closed. He isn't open on mon. anyway. & as far as customer service goes, you were expected to keep to your dept. Which is total BS to me. But I worked in shipping & receiving in the back room so the only time I was on the floor was to bring out stock to the depts. Oh yeah, & they didn't pay worth a chit! $7.50 hr. but I needed the job. & the employee discount was a joke:mad:

Heard this to. Went to see if any deals yet. Nothing to speak of. A few cloths. They don't have chit for ammo or reloading stuff. Any idea when they are set to close.

I like the Bozeman store it's always busy treat me good but they don't keep much in stock as far as Amo or reloading powders and such. Same with some scopes and guns when the varmit guys walk in it seems we are always looking for something they only have 1 of.
