spending the night at blue lake......

well i just got of the phone with a really good friend and fellow SW member that had to spend last night in the hills....
ill tell the story as best as i can seeing i wasnt there but thought id share there story with you

yesterday 4 guys?? maybe more wasnt sure were riding in the blue lake area and the snow was 4ftplus no bottom they droped in the trees and started heading down and down b4 they knew it they were at the bottom of a lake with along way back up, so they started poking back up thru the trees trying to make a highway out! as one guy got stuck around a blind corrner and starts digging himself out a guy down below starts coming up around the corrner and nails his stuck friend wide open and breakes his collar bone

so they get the hurt guy back down to the lake start a fire and keep poking at the hill.. its now dark and they dont seem to be making it up any time soon but keep trying till 3am and deside they need to spend the night!! they cut alot of wood and get a huge fire and bunker down in a whole that they dug in the snow next to a tree.. in the am they call a chopper via sat phone and they come and pick up the hurt guy and his sled.. the boys now start there sleds and start trying to climb out!!! when they stoped last night trying they were only making it 1/4 out... but they managed to get out this afternoon around 2pm after alot of digging and re climbing... maybe when they get home they can fill in some things i might have missed..

somebody should invest in some zombie slippers ......and how in the fawk do you run yer buddy over to the point of injury ...........I am glad that this story has a happy ending .............no really I do

Last winter a buddy & I dropped into a tight area that had same snow, 4 ft plus and no base. It took a long time to get out, thought we might have to spend the night or leave a sled behind. Plus weather closed in so visibility became almost zero. Thank god we had tracked our way in by gps, so we at least had a route to follow back. We got home very late and learned a big lesson about dropping in areas such as this.

However in our adventure no one was hurt. Good that his buddies made a fire and kept him warm. A tough night no doubt.

Ha, I was in the same boat a couple of years ago, we were trying to get out of an area in the dark after being socked in bad. We were trying to blaze a trail just the same, buddy lost his sled, came over a ledge and ran me right over. I took a ski in the back and got ran over. Luckily I wear a motorcross chest protector. I finally told everyone it was time to dig in and start a fire, I've never seen so many long faces in my life. lol

I always try to take enough to spend the night, can do alot with a little food, water, garbage bags, saws, ropes, lighters, gas, etc, etc.

Glad to hear they got out alright.

it also sounds like "You had the smokies and the buns in yer pack "

one thing don't be ashamed if you arrive home with 2 packs of smokeys and buns in your pack ..it means the day went ok

its funny you say that cuz when i asken him if he was hungry he said the only day the one guy brings a 24 pack of cheese smokies..lol he they ate till they were all full.. :beer;

soo anyways I puuled a pack of Bavarian cheese smokies outa the freezer and am now munchin on em ..too funny

I almost spent the night in the lower bullpen, one guy had a redbull and a pack of smokes, and was hung over. Glad we made it out.

That's crazy! We had planed (5 of us) to go to blue lake, same time but other plans came up. I was thinking at the time we went up a alternative hill, it would of been so nice to drop down into the lake, at Blue Lake, and try out my new Hot dogger with cheese Bavarian smokes in it. Luv that area. So glad every ones ok! That's bizzar!
