Speedlimit on sled

Hey Folks

I have a question about blocking speed on sled.

My buddy have few M and few bearcat sleds for rental business, and there are now few rules they say he has to drop the top speed of all rental sleds to 60km/h (35 - 40mph)

What is the best way to do it? without loosing to much torque and power.

Definitely gearing. With a some simple math you should be able to calculate the proper gear ratio.

You may need to do some clutching changes. I can see lots of blown belts from people holding it the bar and having the belt come out of the clutches.

Could you get into a safety situation by limiting the track speed?

In the an attempt to avoid a collision you couldn't spin the track to complete a maneuver.

Kind of a two way street. IMO

This is what I'm thinking.

Won't you end up with people essentially overshifting the sleds trying to go faster then?

Someone who is good with electronics could rather easily set up a system that cuts power at a certain speed using the signal from the speedo pickup. There may be something similar out there for atv's or similar already, I'd look in that market a bit before messing with the gearing.
