To all snowmobilers: James and Kathleen Belgard want to cater to you. The Grand Junction couple in August purchased The Inn at Arrowhead, a 12-room inn with a full-service restaurant and bar at 21401 Alpine Plateau Road, Cimarron, five miles off U.S. Highway 50, high on the Alpine Plateau east of Montrose.
James, 50, and Kathleen, 54, work as an accountant and banker, respectively, during the week in Grand Junction, and they head to the inn on the weekends to work some more. Kathleen Belgard said they purchased the inn because, “We’re homeowners up here, and we’re looking for something to do heading into retirement.”
Their goal, they said, is to turn the inn into a destination snowmobiling lodge because it accesses “many miles of groomed trails and countless powder meadows and trees,” and “snowmobilers can arrive, unload and ride right from the front door.” It also is within a 30-minute drive of other snowmobiling areas, such as Black Mesa, Little Cimarron Valley and Big Cimarron Valley.
The Inn at Arrowhead is open Thursday through Sunday year-round, and Kathleen Belgar said the inn has a French-trained, Le Cordon Bleu chef, Michael Barnes. “We’re awfully proud of him,” she added.
