Spare belt mounting indy 500

Hu Guys,

I have a 98 indy trail 500 (Air cooled). Can I mount my spare belt on top of the belt cover like the one mounted on my liquid cooled ski doo? My worry is the heat comming off the engine will be too hot for the belt. There are holes in the cover that match up exactly to the holes on the belt holder bracket I bought. If this is a bad idea, where else should I mount the spare belt?

Heat will not be a factor...and most of all the polaris's spare belts are mounted to the clutch cover..
