Southern Hemisphere trip 2014 planning

Washington had the first snow last week and while I am waiting to ride here I thought I'd better start planning a trip South for next August or September.

Who wants to go?

I'm just starting to research now. My schemes include:
Three to five weeks
Shipping the snow machine
Great-to-epic terrain. I enjoy riding both trees and alpine.
Semi-predictable weather
Socially and politically stable terrain
Riding legally, safe and playing nice with the locals
Some Guided time to find the goods if necessary

I ride with sledders 80% of the time and I am not picky about what machine my partner(s) are riding.

I have no idea about costs. I am not a millionaire.

Who has suggestions?

Turcotte and Burandt went to Chile a month or so ago too. Burandt set up something for next Summer already. I think Sahen is leading that expedition.

I'd rent a sled down there, unless a big group is going down and you are shipping the sleds in C-cans.

And if you do make it down, lemme know! I'll make the 8-10hr trek south and come for a ride! Your link is near Santiago....that's only 6hrs from me!

Good ideas. I'm inclined to look at local guides because I'm looking for local beta more than riding tips.

I will look into renting a machine. I plan to spend about a month and I am looking for a bike, not a snowmobile.

Well if you're gonna be around for a month, I have a Rzr or two if you wanna hit the sand dunes of the Atacama Desert. I live in Copiapo.

Reeb's job sent him down there. He posted pics of the area earlier in the year.

I linked to a guiding outfit, but what I have in mind is an independent trip. I'd take my own machine and probably find local riders or guides to show me around as necessary. Transportation is another expense/hurdle.....
